I changed the springs which puts me in STU but my stock rims are 8.5" wide. So my question, does the limit on rim width apply to stock rims making me STS or am I ok for STU?

Nevermind. I think I managed to answer my own question, STR. The quick class guide on the CCR solo page is a little confusing/out of date. No mention of the car type requirements for the ST classes and no STR.
If I'm still missing something let me know.

The stock wheels don't really matter in classing. You are correct on STR though. I almost forgot the Z was in that category. Of course the big talks of STR are the Miata and S2. Wish you luck with the new springs. Hope you come to the Thursday Knights event to shake it out. I'll be there testing the fresh turbine.

I actually had the springs on Saturday but wasn't too worried about class for the charity event. They made it way loose, which is much more fun to drive than pushing like it was before. I think I see sway bars in the very near future.
I'll be there tomorrow. Can even come early if pure unskilled labor would be a help with setup.

I don't think the Z is legal in STR.
From the SCCA site: Two seat sports cars Engine displacements up to 2.8-liters No forced induction

I got the info here: www.scca.com/documents/Solo_Rules/2010_scca_solo_rules.pdfPage 172 says: Street Touring R (STR) – Supplemental Class Only cars listed below are eligible: BMW M Coupe & M Roadster (1998-2000) BMW Z3 (non-M) BMW Z4 (non-turbo, non-M) Datsun 240Z, 260Z, 280Z, & 280ZX (non-turbo) Honda S2000 Mazda Miata (non-MazdaSpeed) Mazda MX-5 Miata (2006-09) Mazda RX-7 (non-turbo) Nissan 350Z Pontiac Fiero ... Should I be looking somewhere else?

You're right. STR isn't a formula-based class like other ST classes. It is a class with an inclusion list, the one you list above. Rich, where are you seeing that? There was an early proposal that looked like that, but it was quickly abandoned.

Good old SCCA web site... not the PDF. Gotta love how they update nothing all at once. It probably was an old article.

I was going to say, I exclusively remember reading 350z on the list. It's ok Rich.
Makes it fun to drive. No one cared about classing really for a charity event. I was going to register in HS to make it funny but forgot to change my class. What times did you get out there? What tires are you running? I don't know much about Z's but going to better shocks to adjust the rear for grip may help a little also. Tires would be a BIG help. I know how much fun it can be sliding the rear around. FWD or RWD. Bruce's RX8 was a blast with the rear stepping. I was just being extra careful for it being his car sake. lol.

I think 55 was my fast time and I know I left a lot out there. The tires are Falkens. New tires will be part of a tire and rim package and the funds just don't allow for that right now. The biggest improvement I could make is an upgrade to the pedal steering wheel linkage. I'm still trying to figure out how to install it...

55 isn't too terribly bad but 52 would of been better. I didn't get a chance to watch your runs last night, how was it? What kind of Falkens? Have you done anything with tire pressures?

I ran a 41.0 last night and I know where I left at least a second or two on the track. The tires are Falken Ziex. I took a little out of the rears to see if I could get more grip but it didn't make much difference. I was running 32 psi in the rear 37 in front.

Not a bad time. Interesting tire pressure setup but I have no suggestions there lol. Next month I'll show you more of the right line. That may help you also on that course.

LOL. I'll help you sort that car out throughout the year, as I'm sure you will be coming to just about every event lol. I enjoy helping the Novices. I seem to pick the good ones and watch them throughout the year. The improvements they make throughout a season is fantastic. The best thing for you to learn is the racing line. That was my greatest improvement. Definition of an apex and when to do which kind of apex.
