I was talking to someone either at the charity event or thursday night, and they mentioned another Lotus guy that I could talk to about setup. But I can't remember who he is...
Can I get a little help?

I can't remember Chris' handle on here. His is really stock as far as I know though. I mentioned him to you to look for pointers on how to drive it. He isn't the straightest with it, but he is getting the hang of it. Having fun doing 360's.

Yep, I'm the one with a Elise. I have converted mine more or less back to stock and don't autocross it much since I started road racing. I can help you some. I will be at CMP for the road race on Saturday and Sunday as well as the autocross on Monday with my Formula 600.
Which Lotus do you have? What tires? Any performance mods? Have you autocrossed before? Have you driven a mid-engine car before?

Hey Chris, To answer your questions: It's a 2005 Elise Stock Track and Touring pack I just have all weather Michelins on it right now No performance mods, although i replaced the exhaust beyond the Cat Never auto-crossed before these past 2 events were my first 2 and I am planning to be out at CMP sunday night and autox on monday Nope this is the first mid-engine, unless you count go-karts when I was little

No performance mods and street tires is a great place to start. What size tires do you have? I am running 205's and 245's. Its good for the street since it helps to reduce the chance of throttle lift oversteer, but causes a bad push on low speed corners for autocrossing. When is the last time you had an alignment done? Your in for a treat if you bring it out to CMP. A higher speed autocross with lots of transitions is so much fun in the Elise. You may or not have heard the term "throttle lift oversteer". Most people associate giving a car too much gas and the back end slides out. With a mid-engine car you can do both. Either give it too much gas in the corner or not enough gas and the back will come around on you. Really work on getting your braking done before you turn in. Being a mid-engine you need to be on the throttle through the mid and high speed turns to get the weight to transfer onto the rear tires. By on the throttle, I don't necessarily mean floored. Depending on how fast you are going into the corner you may only be giving enough throttle to hold your speed. Autocross is the perfect place to learn this technique. You don't want to learn this on the street because you are going to spin while learning this. There is a reason my handle has "360" at the end of it! ;D ;D ;D For car prep if you haven't learned this already, cone marks are a PITA to get off your starshield. I recommend getting a roll of carpet protection film at Lowe's or Home Depot. This is a very thin clear film with a slightly sticky backing that is used to put on your carpet if you have worker in your house or something. Cut the 24" wide roll in half with a hacksaw. When you get to the track put this on the front of the car and over the rockers and half way up the door. At the end of the day it just peels off and takes all the cone marks with it. Much easier than spending two or three hours with every chemical under the sun trying to get the rubber marks out of the soft starshield. I have used blue tape in the past and it works well, put people will make fun of your car in the photos and it takes much longer to put on. Come find me at the track. I'm not sure where I will be paddocked for the weekend. Just look for the 16' Silver V-Nose trailer with a black and white stripped awning. My Formula 600 is painted Saffron Yellow. Oh, if you haven't found us already many Lotus owners hang out on www.lotustalk.com. Lots and lots of good reading regarding autocross.

For my tires I am running 195's and 225's. Last Alignment was me and my father, we set the toe out in the front to about 1/16, we have not gotten around to camber yet. From what i have read on the lotus forums is that maxing out the negative camber on the front and about 3/4 degree negative on the back is a good set up. Yeah I figured out that the throttle in this car is *NOT* an on/off switch. I have experienced the throttle off oversteer plenty of times and it is amazing how just a short blip of the throttle can straighten it right back out. As for the cone marks I knew I wasn't crazy!!! I went for the painter's tape method. (It makes the job a whole lot quicker if you use the wider tape) Here I am: img257.imageshack.us/i/img1566c.jpg/Yeah I will be sure to stop by and get some more tips from you.

I thought you would of scared the kid about how snappy loose the rear of the Lotus is. I guess not. I think we have some good Novices this year and it is awesome how some are teaming up with people with equal cars and looking for tips. Chris is a generous guy, as are the majority of the people that come out to the events. Advice is a turn, hello, and handshake away.

I thought you would of scared the kid about how snappy loose the rear of the Lotus is. LOL! Its only loose if you don't keep your foot in it. Of course sometimes letting the tail hang out can be fun! ;D ;D ;D

CMP is going to be a blast!
Also I need to learn a lot more about my car so I don't end up embarrassing myself when people ask me about tech specs
