Anyone know a shop in the Charlotte or surrounding area that can shave tires? I have an older set of Hoosier road race tires that I need to get cleaned up. They are heat cycled out so not much good for road racing, but I can treat them heavily with some traction treatment and they would be fine for autocross if I can get the old rubber shaved off the surface. Tire size is 18x7x10.

Nobody in their right mind will touch a set to shave that have been run. Hidden rocks will kill the blades. Just go to home depot and get a heat gun with the stripping blade for paint and it will peel the old rubber off.

I have all the rubber chunks off already. I was just hoping to remove the layer of hard surface rubber. I guess I'll just treat them with a traction treatment and run them as is.

There is a guy in Concord that does shaving for Legend cars. I think it is Hurricane Racing on Central Drive NW but I can't find his phone number. They shaved a set of tires for me a couple of years ago. Best of luck

Chris, just treat them and run them. I did that with a set of 4 year old worn out tires and they worked fine.

After looking at again, I decided to just to wire brush them a little bit more and then treat them to soften them back up. I will find out tomorrow how well that is going to work.
