Looking for actual STORES in the Charlotte area where I can find Snell SA rated helmets to try on.
I bought a nice new full face HJC XXL helmet online.. But I have an XXL++ fat head. I can get it on, but it's not easy or comfortable.
With all the motorsports presence here, you would think there would be dozens of dealers, but none of them seem to be online, so.. If you know of any places, please post them!

The only places that I know of will be Simpson, Impact and other shops in the Mooresville area. Simpson, Impact and others are at exit 36 (the one where Gander Mtn is), on the west side of I-77. Turn at Chick-Fil-A and roam around that business park. They're back there someplace...

As someone with a bucket instead of a head, I feel your pain. If you go to a road race, the dealer there will usually be happy to let you try them on. Also, Bell has made special "big head" models in the past. I expect other companies have/do the same.

Mr. Franklin taught me a tip...you may wish to try. The inside of your helmet is smooth and rounded... and heads are not made that way. I share your pain and suffered with an "ill fitting"helmet for a good while. Scott mentioned watching TV with your helmet and a big spoon... try on the helmet and where it is tight, take the spoon and massage the foam. It will compress slightly and an 1/8th of an inch on 4 spots is a half of an inch of space that custom fits to your "cranial contours". It won't do miracles but it does make a BIG difference in fit. I was getting headaches after each event. Now it fits like a glove... but larger with no fingers. Give it a try at least... helmets are expensive and as someone once said "Some people have a Bell head and others have a Simpson head. Only way to know is go to the store and try 'em on." Ohhh... that was Scott too!

The Simpson store will be on your left on a corner but, you have to turn BEFORE you get to the store to get there. They usually have deals on stuff there as well in the rear of the store. I got a $165 pair of shoes for $50. Why? They put the velcro closures on upside down so the name "Simpson" could be read by the wearer...I guess Homer was working that shift...DOH!
They also have had some great deals on oddball helmets (custom paints, unusual sizes), SA included.

There's a small race shop on 21 east of Leslie, SC just outside of Rock Hill. They have GForce stuff.

I am not sure if turtle8 is talking about Indocil, but they're in Rock Hill. I got a Pyrotect SA2010 a few weeks ago. They're cool guys that paint helmets, but will sell you an unpainted one.

Impact in Mooresville will custom fit a helmet to your head right inside their shop.

I was going to say Indocil myself. The work they have posted on their website is rediculous. They carry a few different brands.

Did the certification issues with Impact products get resolved? I don't remember the details, I just remember marking any of their safety equipment off of my mental list due to all of the issues a while back. Can anyone else update this?

Snell certification on helmets was never in question anyway.

Thanks a bunch for the responses. If anyone has any more places, please keep posting.
I removed the comfort liner from the helmet and tried it on. It's actually a liitle loose that way. I'm going to remove a little of the padding from the comfort liner, and I hope that will do the trick.. I'll let you all know.

I took Ted's advice and massaged a bit of the foam. I also did a little surgery and sewing to remove some of the padding at the neck of the liner. Now it's snug, but no longer headache-inducing.
