Hey guys, just figured I would give a quick spill here, as with most of us racing, whether it be Auto-x,Drag Racing, TT, Hill Climb or Road course, is a passion. For me it's a Love whether it be tinkering on a old drag truck, or attempting to avoid cones. With that said I am currently attending Belmont Abbey College pursuing a degree in Business, specifically in Motorsports Management (MSM). For those of you who are not aware, it is the only program like it in the country. All other motorsports programs are engineering degrees. Unlike most of my fellow MSM classmates I'm not a huge NASCAR fan. My passion lies with the sports cars of ALMS,FIA GT1, Grand Am, F1 and of course SOLO. So naturally I'm looking for experience in the road racing world. I'm willing to learn all I can both on the management side as well as how a team-driver-owner relationship works. I think the best place to start this is with the back yard teams and more specifically the SCCA. So I'm offering myself as a clean slate to learn and help out where ever I can within the club. Whether it be working corners at VIR or helping phil with Tech. Like I said I'm open. Thanks for time in reading this, Lee Taylor

Lee
First of all good luck. I am a Motorsports Engineering student at UNC Charlotte. As you might have guessed from my involvement here my passion is also with road course racing of any type, though I have found a new apprication for NASCAR after working around a few late models and other oval track cars. Though I have not been around racing as long as a lot of people in this area, Let me know if there is any way I can help you out.

Lee,
Just like John. I'm also at UNCC for mechanical engineering. I have also not been around the racing scene for nearly as long as many people, I can definitely give you some insight into working at events in a few different positions IE cornerworking and T+S. If you have any questions feel free to ask!

More info on this Motorsports Management program. I'm attending UNCC for Finance right now, but I'm finding out it's not what I want to do in life. Motorsports is more my passion in life.

The Mitty and The Petit are places that you can make initial contact with high level folks. At the Mitty, it's much more relaxed. I've chatted with Duncan Dayton (Highcroft Racing), Hurley Haywood (Team Brumos), Boris Said (where ISN'T this guy?), Brian Till, Dorsey Schroeder, Paul Gentilozzi, Max LaGod (RIP), Johnny O'Connell, Randy Pobst, Johnny Miller, etc. Heck, if you're lucky and you act right, you can meet Brian Johnson from AC/DC at one particular event! Most of these folks are approachable in the correct manner with proper timing. John Willes has ties to the ACS team that Brandon Smith drives for and Boris Said used to drive for. They've been in Trans Am and I'm no 100% sure where they are now. Get to know the other members of the region. You might be surprised at some of the connections folks have.

For helping CCR, there are plenty of chances!
We need help with (but not limited to): corner workers at road races and hill climbs, timing at road races, setup at road races and hill climbs, help with finding event and program sponsors (SOLO, road races, hill climbs), newsletter or articles for the web site... we always need help with certain jobs at SOLOs - setup, teardown, timing.
I'm sure Dave would welcome some help with setting up socials for the Charlotte area crowd as well.
So if you have an interest in a specific area, let us know. It's difficult when someone says "I want to help" but doesn't give us any direction on their interest. If you have no desire to work a corner, but we put you there and you don't like it, we've not done any good for you or the club...

John and Collin hope I get a chance to meet you guys either at the next AX or social. Definitely want to get to know as many people as possible. mgcook: I will PM you the email to my MSM advisor here at the Abbey. Rich: i would like to start small and work my way up. So I’m game to help in Timing and Scoring, Announcing, setup (when i'm not in school), tear-down ect. at the events. As long as I can get a pretty good advance notice for school and work, working Corners is something I wouldn’t mind doing at Road races or Hill climbs. I’m willing to learn If i can get some willing teachers.

Lee, that is pretty cool to hear. If you want to start small, start by showing up early at an AX event with the core team. We always appreciate the extra hands. Helping us clean up is appreciated also. If we get set up quick in the morning, you can always shadow Phil and learn the Tech ins and outs. Get brushed up on the SOLO rulebook some that way too. We can work you up. The Michelin event is an SCR event. The CMP event always needs a LOT of help. Memorial Weekend you can learn a lot all at once if you can get it all off. I highly suggest going down Friday though. Sat Sun is the road race. Corner workers are greatly appreciated for those days. There is a registration that I'm sure will be posted in the up coming weeks as we get closer. Plenty of friendly knowledgeable people to show you the ropes. It isn't hard. Definately fun! I'm not sure what I'll be doing those days yet, whether its corner working or crewing for someone. Sunday at the end of racing, the AX setup begins. It's a long fun weekend for sure. Goes by fairly quick unfortunately.
That degree sounds interesting. I wish you lots of luck with it. I admire your willing to want to learn the sport. Fantastic mindset. I very much hope you succeed with your long adventure.
