The Southwest Chapter of the Central Carolinas Region of SCCA cordially invites you to our monthly meeting on April 14th in Greenville, SC at Quaker Steak & Lube on Chrome Drive (just off Garlington Road and Woodruff Road). We will eat from 6 to 7 and meet from 7 to 8:30.
We will be covering recent events for motorsports in our area autocrosses with CCR/SCR/CSCC and plans for upcoming events like the Black Lake CCR/SCR shootout at Michelin Proving Grounds and the Memorial Monster. We’ll also recap some recent events like Buck Muse Road Race and the Clemson Motorsports Festival and Autocross. We may have some more news on hillclimbs and a possible NCR/CCR event for road racers at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Anyone with items for sale or trade are welcome to bring a full description with pricing for our “Sale or Trade” portion of the meeting.
I am proud to announce a special guest speaker for the evening. In our youth, we all raced bikes and dreamed of big time racing. Life has a way of forcing us to lower expectations and day to day reality shows the path that we must take. Some people are not willing to give up on those dreams and work hard to overcome the odds against them. Andrew Frick is one of those guys. Andrew and his team mate Ryan Scott turned a 10 year old 2-Wheel Drive Ford Focus into a WRC rally car and formed the independent self funded Rally Team for Dreams – through their rallying, they are raising funding for Ohio’s Camp Sunrise which helps kids affected by HIV and AIDS.
“Rally Team for Dreams is a vehicle - both literally and figuratively--to fulfill dreams,” said Scott. “It’s a way for us to take a traditionally self-centered pursuit and use it for the greater good while inviting the world to join the team.”
Rick and Scott have been together for three seasons and have notable rally experience in the 2008 and 2009 Rally of the Tall Pines and in the 2010 SnoDrift Rally, beating Ford factory driver Ken Block in all three events. Andrew has agreed to come speak to us about WRC and rally driving as well as fill us in on his most recent event, the 2011 WRC Rally of Mexico last month. I won’t tell you what happened but I can promise you, he’s got quite a story to tell! Andrew has just moved to the area so be sure and welcome him (and his lovely wife Sarah).
