have you had the oil pan off?? what did you see in there?? If no metal dust [or worse metal pieces], then you should be ok...if all you see is sludge & scale, the trouble might be the heavier oil...your engine isn't new... maybe her insides aren't as clean & shiny brite as they will be later... the heavier oil might be, well, too heavy for right now...did she sit idle for awhile b4 you got her?? we've run into this b4 with ac compressors ...older, more hrs on them & the spec oil is too heavy & makes them noisy or can cause failure...lighter oil & they go right back to working good... the marvel mystery oil might just do the trick...& get you two "on the road again"...& you're not smokin so that's good news...c u 2 this weekend...r&k

Rod knock only gets worse and there is no magic potion to fix it. I've been building and racing cars for 20+years I've lost 2-3 engines to rod failure and I've caught failing rods on another 8-10 before they took out important things. I am very sensitive to the precursor to kaboom. IF the valves are silent and there is a mechanical rattle it's never good. Also this engine rattles on first start so I know the bearings are very loose so it's time for new ones. I'm not trying to stomp on any toes I'm just explaining that I know these things better than I'm given credit for.

Karen other than the glitter on the dipstick I won't k ow till I tear her down there is a huge crank bridge blocking all view of the crank and rods.

the 1st car we built is still a street-stock car in Mn...built over 30 yrs ago, when we were dating...from the ground up, we fell in love over that car...never got to race it ourselves...built it too tight for racing & it froze up by the 6th lap because of the load/heavy clay/heat, never blew any gaskets or seals though...so in a neighbors car it went & he drove it about 100,000 mi til they tried it again... the little bit of looseness, now, has made it a great racecar...again we never raced it, because we were here in nc., but he still is having a great time with it...just sayin, none of us are born knowing everything & we have to be open to ideas/suggestions that are outside our box...we would have trashed that froze engine & ended up with nothing but grief for all our time & effort...& the solution was so simple...maybe no "magic bullet" for you... but wouldn't simple be nice??? r&k

Z6 bottom under an a6 head that works out to..... Turbo!!
Thanks for the offer David. I think I stopped before the bearing was totally gone so I'm going to attempt a rebuild, I think the last time I touched the innards of a d16 was your white ex.
Actually that might work... The z6 is 9.2:1 with a smaller chamber in the head and the a6 is 9.1:1. I need to crunch some numbers. We'll talk this weekend.
