I was doing some research for the SOLO National Tour event Halloween weekend and found out the speedway is closing at the conclusion of this year. They are finishing the events already scheduled for 2011 and then it will be no more. Apparently Dover Motorsports is unhappy with the fact that there is no Sprint Cup race at the facility. Sounds like another Bruton Smith complaint bandwagon. There have been some good NASCAR races there for the Nationwide and the Craftsman truck series. The regional SCCA club uses the site seemingly every three weeks. It is a shame to this news. It truly is a nice facility. www.nashvillesuperspeedway.com

If I'm not mistaken this is a France family facility...since it's just off Bill France Blvd. If Bruton can make a buck on it he'll make it work. Sad though, great TT memories...I got my first class win there.

Investors built Nashville because they thought they could get a cup race. One HUGE event every year is the only way a large paved track can make money. Unfortunately, the Frances and Smiths hold the majority of the profitable tracks. (cause they either built them first, or bought them out)
In this economy, Nashville isn't big enough to guarantee a sellout every time, which gives NASCAR a perfect reason to keep all the dates for themselves. That is a shame for sure, but not so suprising.
Ironically, there are two markets NASCAR wants to build tracks at, and the locals don't want them - the Pacific NW and NYC.

Have you gone to or seen a race at Nashville? I'll tell you the place is pretty darn full for a Nationwide race. It is amazing. NYC would be dumb for a race track, sorry. The NASCAR teams don't need another west coast course to worry about travel. Plus, good luck getting the new track on the schedule.
