BMW allows us to use their parking lots for our autocrosses on Sunday each year after Eurofest in return for our contributions to the event on Saturday. Our contribution is having a special SCCA award (given to the race car shown that best illustrates the spirit of competition) and handling the arrive n drive at the BMW Performance Center! This is my 5th year working with the event and it is one AWESOME show. Marques this year are Sprite / Midget and Jaguar XKEs. But you will still see many exotics from Ferraris, Panteras, Lambos... best European car show in the Southeast!!!
For a $30 contribution to Red Cross Upstate Disaster Relief, anyone can come to the BMW performance center and get in a newer model BMW and run :
1) Wet & Dry Timed Competition: This event will use the "SKID PAD" and go from dry to wet and back to dry again. It will incorporate a salaam and go from asphalt to polished concrete. It is a "timed event".
2) Rat Race: This event will pit two cars "head to head" on an oval track in wet driving conditions with the traction control turned off. It is a "timed event"
3) Off Road: This event will allow the participants to drive an X5 on the off road course with varying terrain and a river crossing conditions.
4.) Arrive n Drive AX : 3 runs on a timed short autocross in newer model BMWs on an asphalt course on the far right of the Performance Center area.
This year's event we will need volunteers to help with timing, shagging pylons, running grid, helping people getting in cars and taking tickets for the Arrive n Drive. We will have two shifts... one from 9 to 12 and one from 12 to 4. As a thanks to workers, you will get free runs on the AX course in the BMWs. How many runs depends on time but usually, we have our own little competition.
I need to know who will come and which shift you will work. This is a small price to pay for a good autocross site and a good cause...one we all hope we never need. Please volunteer. I will respond with an email confirming your shift and where to meet AND I will print out who is working when on this forum post... we only have so many openings so let me know as soon as you can. By working half days, you will still have time to enjoy Eurofest cars and the show. Thanks! Ted
