Just registered even though I've been lurking a bit. Just bought an IT7 RX-7 (thanks Larry!) and am hoping to get my butt in gear and get the car running and sorted so I can start running track trials and hillclimbs. Looking forward to meeting everyone at the track.

Welcome aboard Mike! You are in for some fun times... great bunch of drivers and well run competition events.
CCR will be holding two "Chasing The Dragon" hillclimbs at the Robbinsville, NC site near the Tail of the Dragon. One, May 5 & 6 and one, August 4 & 5. I hope to have two separate courses so we will have two sets of records to shoot for... and both will be 2.3 to 3 miles long.
With Larry as a resource, you have great experienced guide. If I can help you on anything, please let me know as well. Look forward to meeting you and sharing some track and hills! Thanks Ted

Believe me, I'm psyched to get on track! Going to fire the car up today and tinker and I've already got a list of parts that I'll need to pick up. Now I just need to find some deals on safety gear (suit, shoes, gloves, etc...). I want to have the car ready before 'Dega so I can get my license.

Welcome Mike. We have a program called "Second Gear" that you can borrow safety gear like suit, shoes, gloves, etc. You do have to buy your own helmet. When shopping for a helmet look for closeouts on SA2005 model that will be good for at least 5 more years. We can also steer you towards suppliers that give some discounts over that published on their sites. Welcome to the madness.

Driver's gear can be very expensive or moderately priced depending on selection and timing. Impact Racing has a location in Mooresville, NC off of Hwy 150, that currently has some great deals on new-old-stock suits that can save big $ and yield some first class safety garments. Other brands can be acquired via CV products, also in Mooresville due to the number of NASCAR teams housed there. Impact has settled their certification issues and has a deal on belt exchange that reduces belt cost by half. Find a racer that is discarding expired belts of any mfg and trade them in.

Thanks for all the info. I found a deal on some closeout gear but I'm going to check out Impact and CV Products and see what they have. I have a brand new helmet so I'm good to go there. And I actually have 2 expired belts so that's a bonus. I got my SCCA membership last night. C'mon 2012!

Mike... little known fact that may save you some trouble. IT MIGHT be best to wait to buy your Nomex driving suit in early spring. Many drivers have reported that Nomex apparently "shrinks" over the winter.... AND THAT...is where we get our Second Gear Program donations from! Just kiddin' ... let me know if I can help in anyway.... Larry is a great resource and mentor. HAving someone to help explain and coach makes a BIG difference (I owe a lot to Mr. George Bowland ... his advice kept my rear outta' the trees and boulders on a number of occasions.)

2 days a member and already a birthday? Pretty good timing. Happy Birthday and looking forward to having you on the track. Did I read somewhere that you were going over to work on the car yesterday? Any progress reports? Making me look bad already....I've got work to do to mine, too.

I bought my entire suit, except shoes, from Apex Performance in Myrtle Beach. They will ship. They go to CMP for a lot of events.

Any progress reports? Making me look bad already....I've got work to do to mine, too. Thanks! Yep, as my dad put it, this is the year of the King, as in King Richard Petty. I've been tinkering a little. Just trying to learn what I can about the car. As far as progress updates, I've just removed the window net, harness, seat, and stickers. I picked up a battery for the car so I'm going to change the oil and filter and try to fire the car up. My wife got me a new G-Force window net for my birthday. That's a great woman! I picked up a new impact socket set yesterday so I'm going to pull the wheels and take a look at the wheels, brakes, suspension, and undercarriage. Once I get going I'll have a million questions. My wife is psyched to get on the track. Awww yeah!
