Aka "So you like to wear white and wave flags, eh?"
Someone just posted that registration is open for NCR's Crash & Burn school in Danville next month. If you've ever wanted to get more involved with club racing, here's your chance. Races don't happen without workers, and flaggers/corner workers are always welcome. If you love racing, there is simply NO way to get any closer to the action than working a corner. I got talked into flagging a race last year, and despite a pants wetting moment I've really enjoyed it. On my first day Don Drennon told me "Flagging is hours of boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror." This school is to help teach you want to do after those moments of sheer terror.
My spiel out of the way, here's the vitals:

One of my goals this year is to get more people involved in flagging. We as CCR have a pretty remarkable lack of volunteers at these races. At the 13hr at VIR, most of them were from NCR (since it's their home region) and even SCR and Atlanta were very well represented. I was the only CCR member (that I'm aware of) there. Let's change that for next year
If anybody wants to carpool up, let me know. We can meet somewhere near Concord Mills and you can ride with me. We'll need to leave there between 5:30-5:45 or so since it's a pretty good drive up.

Join the North Carolina Region SCCA for the Crash & Burn School. On Saturday February 11, 2012 we will conduct worker training in the close environment of Dan River Grand Prix Kart Track. We'll treat you with lunch at Aunt Millies Pizza in Milton NC on our way to VIR for Fire Training in the South Paddock.
Expect to experience an intense and enjoyable day studing the basics and finer points of marshalling a road race. Anyone interested in working a race is welcome.
Registration opens at 8:30am at Dan River Grand Prix. Training begins promptly at 9am until 11:30am. You can then drive to Aunt Millies Pizza for lunch provided by the North Carolina Region. Fire Training begins promptly at 1:30pm until the school is complete at 4pm.
Rumor has it, many folks already plan to return to Dan River Grand Prix to race into the evening.
