Anyone up for letting the former SOLO chair co-drive your car at AX #1?
I entered in STS, but I'm not going to take the points race seriously this year, so it really doesn't matter... Hmm... maybe a Cassino car whoring year!!

Rich, you are welcome to drive my little Miata in STR. I just put a new clutch in last weekend and will have it broken in before the event, but I would still ask you to baby it on launch, that is my only condition ^_^.

you can drive mine .. though I've already got a co-driver ... Mike's going to run it in CSP ... doable ... especially if CSP is in a different run group from STS .. that way you get pts in STS

This will be my first event ever. Looking for anyone to ride with me as an instructor and for me to ride with anybody else to learn. I would also like someone who can drive to take one of my runs to see what my car can do. It is just a stock 2006 AP2 S2K with exhaust and intake. Since I am ignorant of most of the rules I do not know if all that is even possible but I am open to doing everything I can!

Novices are encouraged to have instructors ride with them. Most will also welcome a novice to ride with them, if they aren't trying to beat someone else's time!!
Novices are only allowed instructors as passengers.
If we end early enough and do fun runs then you can get someone to drive your car...

Dagou, here is my personal opinion. Since this will be your first time doing Solo (aka autocross), here is rule number one: HAVE FUN. Now, this is where you will hate me reinstall the stock intake system back in the car. Do not run STR, but instead run Tire B-Stock, and learn the limits of the stock suspension. (for your next event, look for and buy a cheap saner front sway bar, and get a decent alignment) Don't worry about PAX or being super competitive for your first few events. Learn how to drive the S2000 at its limit on the stock suspension, before you start making modifications. Engage the help of the drivers that are running in Pro class (The are not Pros by any mean .....LOL, but most of those guys are very fast and they have been doing this for a long time) Bother the sh*t out of the pro drivers to take you on one or two of their runs. During fun runs, or sign up for STO, have a pro class driver like myself, since I have an S2000, or anyone that you feel comfortable with to take you out in your car for a couple of runs. Continue to run until you see your time starts to drop and getting closer to your instructor/pro class driver. If you can't match the Pro Class's drivers time, or get within .500 of a sec of his or her time, then do not touch the car's suspension, except for a decent alignment and a bigger front sway bar. Become the fastest Pro class driver in an S2000's friend, and start bribing him by buying him Warsteiner beer Did I mention the part about having fun? Oh yeah, Have fun

How do I sign up for this? I think I am over thinking this. I guess I just need to be there and go with the flow. But yes I encourage to instructors to ride with me and will ride with any who will take my fat, ask me a question!

Do not run STR, but instead run Tire B-Stock, and learn the limits of the stock suspension. (for your next event, look for and buy a cheap saner front sway bar, and get a decent alignment) This, but for another reason. I ran the 2nd half of the season in my MINI instead of my friend's WRX. His WRX is pretty well modified, and he likes the suspension setup to be loose. If it wasn't loose enough on the first run, sometimes he'd adjust it for the next. When you're learning, that's not exactly optimal. It's WAY too easy to blame the car, but the simple fact of the matter is... it's YOU that's slow. Not you specifically, but you as a human "Oh my dampers are too stiff/soft.... I need a bigger swaybar in the front... it needs more camber to help it turn in." No, it doesn't. Once I got into the MINI and the only possible adjustment was putting air in the tires or taking it out, I quit playing that mental game of "what's the car doing wrong?" Blame yourself first and foremost, and one day in the future when you can go out and throw down 5 consistent runs on the limits of adhesion... THEN you can start blaming the car. It's really a lot more fun and a lot less stressful when you can just focus on what you're doing without putting a single thought into car setup. Drive the hell out of it, get out of the car with your hands shaking in excitement... then go do it again!! Jay: Who drinks Warsteiner?! I've got a case at the house I can start bribing with

And on my way home, I remembered what I was going to add. Last year, as a novice, this is how my learning curve went: First event, maybe the first 2 or 3, are all about learning what the tires can actually do. I don't care how hard you think you've driven your car on the street, you haven't. At the TSCC novice school last year, I made my first run down the slalom course and back at what I thought was a decent pace, based on what street driving was like. My instructor was yelling at me to push it harder. So when we got back to the line, I told him to hop in my car and show me what he meant. He went through it like a madman... and THAT was an eye opening experience. Your tires will surprise you with what they can actually do! Next maybe 2 events was about learning how to manage weight transfer to get even more out of the tires. I know it was beat into my head that there's no coasting in AutoX. You're either on the gas or on the brakes... you don't coast. By making that transition from gas to brakes at the last second, or even just holding on tiny bit longer into a corner and coming off the throttle hard, you transfer more weight to the front wheels for MORE GRIPZ, YO!!! Getting on the brakes and feeling the back end start to rotate and compete for honors of "front end" is both an incredibly fun feeling and one that will put knots in your stomach. Sometimes it wins that contest, your heart sinks as you jump on the brakes and clutch, and you've just learned another lesson in the battle of weight transfer! After that, it's about finding the line. There are so many different types of elements out there and everything changes every event. Being able to pick out the fast line isn't as easy as it is on a normal racetrack. Every run is about figuring out where you can improve and trying new lines. This is the stage I'm still in, and will be in for some time probably. If you don't spin it at some point, you're probably not pushing hard enough. If you don't hit cones, you're definitely not pushing hard enough. And when you make a run where you've hit all your marks and danced right on that limit of adhesion... you come across the line and reach for the time slip with your hands shaking... it's all worth it The less control you have over your muscles after a run, the better it probably was! I pulled into the paddock after my last run at the July CMP event, tried to stand up, and my knees were shaking so bad I had to sit back down. WORTH IT!!

ill be running pro in a bright yellow stook CR #195 find me early in the run group and ill give you a ride.
as tips go have fun dont worry about being fast cause your not gonna be. worry about fun if its not fun then youll never be fast cause youll never do it enough to get fast. it takes at least a full season to get a good handle on this sport. in the meantime get to know people the truth is its more social than race anyhow. thats the fun part to me, its the people.

My heart was pumping like crazy, and when I got out of the car my arms were trembling from the adrenaline surge. I wasn't fast at all, but I was PUMPED! Took me 3 or 4 events to really control that adrenanline surge, and I started to get smoother and I stopped over-driving the turns (at least most of the time) and started shaving time. I spun a few times, and a couple were pretty "epic"! cough cough(CMP) Two Words: SEAT TIME. You need it more than any modification you can possibly make to the car. Run all the events your budget and family life can withstand.

GREAT conversation from a lot of experience guys. No Novice should be scared to ask for help especially in our region. There are so many people willing to help each other. Even the pro and veteran drivers lean on each other for help constantly.
The reason you can't register for STO is because I'm a doubler and didn't add the class. I will fix that. You just go back and register a second entry.
