While in the passenger seat I noticed what they were doing compared to me, and how aggressive they were and I wasn't. And as I re-aligned my spine in the passenger seat from the G-forces they created, all I could think of was ... the car can do that, and that and oh yeah that too. Yup... verbal coaching can only do so much. It's amazing how much more you can learn simply by watching someone do it. Let instructors drive your car... multiple times if possible. At future events, when they're asking for a car to co-drive (I'm speaking of Casino, here.. just so we're clear), let them co-drive yours. Take in EVERYTHING that they're doing. Don't JUST watch their line and where they're going. One run watch their head and their hands as they look ahead and their steering inputs. Another run, watch their feet and those inputs... whether they ease into the throttle or are less subtle with it.

Zmax was first shot at autox and I loved it. Only been wanting to do it for the last 30 years. Yes I am signing up for the novice class, what a great opportunity. A few words on the first event. First everyone was so helpful friendly. Several folks really took a chunk out of their day to help me out, to talk to me, to calm the first day jitters. Thanks to you all who helped the shinny blue S2000! Second was the driving. Look ahead, there was not one person that i talked to that did not tell me that! The whole driving experience was just too fast, blurrrrrrrrrr of cones and turns and squeals, sometimes me sometimes my tires, and i am going sideways and now I am sideways the other way and now it is over. How in the world do you tell if you need to adjust your left rear tire, add a click of dampening to a shock, or add a degree of camber? Does time some how slow as you become one with your car? How can you guys process all this in 70 seconds?
But again thanks everyone, hope to see you all soon.

It all comes with seat-time and constant interaction with your fellow autocrossers.. Pretty much, ALL of us are still learning, we're just at different places on the curve. See you at Metrolina!

DaGou, that is the first rush. Great fun, huh? SCCA is full of great people, that may be as important as the runs. Believe it or not, this becomes even better. As your skills add up, you will see the course slow down. Then one day (the only Way to describe it) the cones will flow by you. As you go from turn to turn you will feel like time has slowed to a gently flowing stream, all the time in the world to place the car. Like clouds drifting by, you float among them. When you see this feeling of calm, you know you have accomplished a great run. The thrill is diffrent from the "RUSH" but feels just as good.

Glad you had fun at your first autocross, and I hope to see you regularly put your S2000 to the test. It's an amazing car and loads of fun to drive.
As far as any help, we have almost a million S2000's in the club, and all of them willing to give you some time and hopefully answer any questions you might have. I have the cool yellow one with the boyracer wing, so if you have any questions I will be happy to help.

DaGou its time to get your wife out there in the Fit for the novice school too! She told me that you say she drives crazy; time for her to prove it! Good meeting you both out there, looking forward to seeing you at Metrolina.

Does time some how slow as you become one with your car? How can you guys process all this in 70 seconds? Yes.... things seem much much slower when you're actually driving vs riding passenger. As for processing it... I really don't. While I'm in grid sitting in my car waiting to pull up to the line, I'm usually going through the course in my head (as best I can remember it). Think it over beforehand, know your marks, then go out and hit them (your marks, not cones). When I overthink things on course, I go slower. When I just kinda zone out and let what happens happen.... I'm fine. It'll come to you, don't worry! Your first event or two is overhwelming because it's SO different than anything you've done on the street. Focus on having fun and everything else will fall into place. As long as you're crossing the timing lights with a smile on your face every time, you're doing it right!

Suspension and stickier tires will help, but.... As a fellow warrior in the battle against understeer(push), I humbly suggest this: Patience. Brake sooner. Slow-in, fast-out. Now, I have to tell you that I am not consistent at doing this. Even with the shocks and slicks, I still experience understeer. My favorite pedal is the one on the right, not the one in the middle, and I, personally, have to force myself to brake sooner. Agreed, Your Genesis and my grand Prix share a handicap, weight, both very heavy cars, fortunately for you rear-drive is a blessing. an advantage to big cars is more torque normally. You can make up that slow entry on your exit with light hands and a heavy foot (just not too heavy ) Some time you have to rotate that car before the corner, hard to explain but yes big cars can fit in Mini size spaces Just a note, if you run CMP.... the #2 marker at turn 14 is ur last chance braking point... if you miss it, pack a shovel....

All I have to say is if it feels slow and frantic at the same time it's usually quick

Looking ahead in an s2000 is key. Everything is such a blur in those cars. I'm sure your eyesight will adjust as get used to it. I have not spent enough time in one to know. I feel so sloppy when I drive one though because everything is such a blur.

I spun my first 350z 8 times during 8 runs, while DNF'ing all 8 runs One thing was for sure, I could not wait for the next event the following weekend. I could not read a course, let alone drive one to completion for my first few events

Lets get some more students please. Everyone can't be a helper, and some of the helpers should be students. This will NOT be a hang out and get free seat time event.
During the classroom session, if you are experienced and know what the rules are, the classroom will not be mandatory and you will be allowed to drive.

Should I go ahead and register now if I'm not 100% sure I can make it or not, I would be a student, and if I do preregister but don't prepay just in case I cant make it, will it cost more to pay at the event?

I'll let you take a few spins in my S if you want. It understeers like a b**** right now because I haven't had time to readjust the FSB. Would be fun to hear/see your impression of it.
