What's the rules on strut tower braces?
Are they allowed in stock class, or do they put you in a different class? I tried looking through the rule book, but didn't come up with anything. I'm probably over looking it, or they call them something different than I'm used to.

Not legal for stock.
Also - as a future tip, if you dont see it in the rules, it's not allowed.

they aren't mentioned in the stock rule set
as mrwhite said ... if it's stated as ok , it's not allowed
if you move on down the pages to ST and on to SP you'll find them listed as an allowable modification

I would say legal if they come stock on the car but not upgradable to a heavier bar.

Thanks for the replies guys. I looked though the ST and SP classes as well but I guess I missed it. I'll keep in mind the no show no go rule. If it doesn't show it in the rules then it's a no go. Thanks

No show no go is the way to view it. The flip side to the tower brace rule set for stock, if it comes factory with one it must be retained. Some are heavy as all get out and not worth what they do. So no aftermarket bars in stock and factory must be retained.

Thanks for the replies guys. I looked though the ST and SP classes as well but I guess I missed it. I'll keep in mind the no show no go rule. If it doesn't show it in the rules then it's a no go. Thanks page 82 ( Street Touring section ) G. Strut bars (per Section 12) are permitted with all types of suspen- sion, subject to the following constraints: 1. a two-point strut bar may be added, removed, modified, or substi- tuted, but only with another two-point strut bar. 2. A triangulated (3-point) strut bar may be removed, modified, or substituted; substitution may be with either a triangulated or a two- point strut bar. The connection to the chassis (i.e., firewall, bulk- head, etc) must be in the standard location. 3. Lower suspension braces must be attached to the lower suspen- sion pickup point locations on the chassis within 2 inches (2”, 50.8 mm) in any direction of the actual suspension attachment to the chassis. 4. Except for standard parts, no connections to other components are permitted. Additional holes may be drilled for mounting bolts. Only bolt-on at- tachment is permitted. Interior trim panels may be modified to allow installation of strut bars. Holes or slots may be no larger than nec- essary and may serve no other purpose. This does not permit any modifications to the frame or unibody beyond the allowed mounting holes.

I'm trying to download the rulebook from the SCCA page and it's not letting me. Any other places I can go to get it?
EDIT: Found out it wouldn't open in Google Chrome. Had to open in Internet Explorer.

a hard copy used to be a requirement .... don't know if still... with the proliferation of smart phones ...etc .... Where do you even get a hard copy? sccagear.com has the 2010 SOLO rules up.. and they don't even have a copy of the club racing GCR available. Honestly I wouldn't mind keeping a copy of the GCR handy. We had a keeper at turn 9 this weekend, and he asked me if he was going to have to put his gloves and helmet back on to drive back in after a flat tow out of the sand trap, and honestly I don't know. Would be nice to keep a copy in my track bag so I can quote gospel with the best of them

Steven, the answer is yes! The emergency respondent should have notified the driver.
Yes, there is supposed to be a copy of the rule book on site, BUT 2011 was only available electronically. Now with the class structures changing every year, idk how it is being done. I have a copy downloaded on my iPad and it goes to EVERY event with me. At National events, the competitors are responsible to have a copy of the rule book with them in grid.

Danke, Walt!! Steven, the answer is yes! The emergency respondent should have notified the driver. I told him I was fairly sure he did, even if he's only driving the 100 yards counter-race back into the pits following the wrecker. Glad to see I got something right for once
