Ive been running autox since last year but I may need someone who has this car or someone with a lot of experience to give me some feedback so I may ask for some assistance Kuhn! Wonder if the guy with the burnt orange vette will be there april 7th? Besides SS, is there another class I can run in? how in the hell do they expect a heavy corvette to compete with the lotus elise's of the world?

Right now there's really nobody that runs SS class on a regular basis. If you want someone to compete with regularly, you can always come to Tire class ;D

The heavy corvette's are pretty evenly matched with the Lotus's at a National level...Hell even Matthew Braun has jumped in a Corvette instead of the Elise this season.

If there was enough competition in SS, I could probably be convinced to run SS instead of Pro next year. Being the only SS car is the reason I jumped into the pro class in the first place. Kuhn is right. A well prepped Corvette should be pretty evenly matched with my Elise at our big lots like Zmax. A smaller course will still favor the Elise a bit, but even our "smaller" lot at Metrolina isn't that small. In the mean time, if you don't have Hoosiers, go play in tire class. You will have your hands full in that class with some really good competition. Last years tire class winner would have been between at least three drivers and gone down to the last event if Brian and I hadn't missed the last two events due to work.

...A smaller course will still favor the Elise a bit... Not necessarily. My best results in my Corvette were on small lots. Those courses have a tendency to focus on power rather than handling, primarily short straights followed by tight turns followed by short straights. Accelerate, brake, repeat. Maybe it just favors my "no-skill" driving style. I'd be glad to give your new car a go!

I'm probably the guy you referred to w/ the "burnt orange vette". I run in tire class for a couple of reasons; 1) because you would have to put a trailer on your car to tow your race tires to the track (you might fit one tire in the "trunk"), and 2) because there isn't anyone in SS. Anyhow, I'm happy to help any way I can but I generally don't finish very well - there are certainly many better coaches, a few of which have already replied. I will be there on the 7th, so come and find me, or I guess it'll be easy for me to find you! Don G.

Great car. I bought one in the fall and love it, but I'm sticking with my Subaru for CCR points events. Non-points, I'll be running my GS.
If you plan to run street tires, I think the tire class is a better choice than SS. At least you have lots of good fair competition. Without Hoosiers, SS is an impossible class.
If CCR sets up for RTR, you will have another choice. The rules are the same as stock with street tires. I'm running mine in Atlanta where they have RTR. Eventually, you may want to upgrade shocks and front swaybar, but the car is a blast to drive as is off the showroom floor. I have worn out the original tires driving in the mountains and have plus sized the rubber and gone with Michelin PSS non run flats as well as Koni yellows and a Strano front bar. Not much else to do: "just" figure out how to drive it.
RTR is also available for the Shootout. I signed up today - mostly for the seat time against National Caliber Competition. If you and Don sign up, we'll have 4 in the class. Should be fun.
See you this saturday,
Clyde Stahl

I agree with Clyde, don't bother with SS if you are on street tires. Nobody is currently running SS in CCR. You would be by yourself so there is no reason too. Run tire class so you establish a baseline of how you compare to some other drivers. That will give you a goal to work towards moving up in tire class as the season progresses.

Not to put another hat in the ring for instruction, but I would be happy to help as well. I have helped out with a few other Corvette drivers in the past including Don G. If nothing else I will try to keep an eye out for you when you are running to offer any advice I can.
