My first weekend as a course worker. A great experience that I recommend every member do at least once. I went with the idea of: 1- Supporting the club 2- Learn more about how these events work. (a REALLY FAST and LONG Autocross with Guardrails and Rocks instead of Cones) 3- Put some faces to names I hear around club functions.
I personally witnessed several instances throughout the weekend where extra measures were taken by Spectators, Drivers, Workers, Organizers and local supporters to make this a great event, and to make sure everyone felt an appreciated part of the process.
Kudos to Ted for being the front man on this - you are absolutely the right guy for the job. I don't mean to slight all the others that worked at planning this, and thinking of all the multitude of details. It's just that I don't know everyone yet.
If we were to repeat this in September, we'd be doing fabulous, but I know it's going to be even bigger.
We love Robbinsville and Graham County, and they obviously love us!

And results will be posted tonight... Was just too tired to do it last night!!! too tired? gee, Rich, I just can't imagine... All in all a fabulous weekend. Only two incidents of note and no one hurt. Thanks to all the workers who "took a chigger for the team" That was one heck of a drive home, down the mountain in a hurricane...my knuckles are still white. And to those that think it's a good idea to drive 5mph with your flashers going...it's not.

That was one heck of a drive home, down the mountain in a hurricane...my knuckles are still white. And to those that think it's a good idea to drive 5mph with your flashers going...it's not. I ran into that crap around Morganton. There's something really disconcerting about the whole car yawing to the side then snapping back in line. I can't imagine what it was like for you towing the Miata home! I had a blast up there, but as I told Ted... the weather steward is fired. I had checked the weather prior to leaving home on Wednesday and it said a high of 79. Standing on the mountain in the afternoon I'm sure it was in the 90s. Hopefully we get a new weather steward for the fall event Great racing, great people, great hospitality. Can't wait to come back and do it again! Oh, and thanks for teaching me Tech. Hopefully I'll be able to pitch in and lend a hand in the future.

Thanks for the kind words Eric. In our course worker meeting, I made the statement... " it takes a city...". I have the opportunity to have a better perspective than most on what it takes to make this happen. That Event Manager perspective is shared by John Barnette (founder of Crow Mountain), Steve Eckerich, Tony Wentworth and Brian Gause, Wesley Nicholson (all involved in founding Wolf Ridge, Eagle's Nest, Sparta, Beech Mtn., etc.) and Dean Furr (Chimney Rock). The perspective is summed up in this phrase... no matter how good a leader, organizer... no matter how well you structure it and plan, no matter how careful you do risk analysis and cover every detail... the ultimate success of the event comes down to the people who volunteer to work. THEY are the ones that made this event succeed. They are the ones that when needed, grabbed a rope and erected the tire, they are the ones who creatively resolved timing and communications issues, they were the ones who were patient when food did not arrive as planned, they were the ones that took the time to be friendly with crowd and explain shuttles and how we run. Phillip, sweating his butt off as the Dragon. Our nice ladies in the INFO Desk that handled Media, fielded questions and made a LOT of kids happy! Rich & Rick and the gang in timing working through problems. Our Stewards making sure we kept a safe course and well executed event. Workers handling spectator control areas... GREAT JOB! Never a moments concern and that made the event MUCH more enjoyable and friendly.
So, thanks for the kudos but, from Steve, our Board Members, Don Drennon and ALL involved in planning the event and managing it, THANK YOU for YOUR part in making it great. We love ya and so does Robbinsville and Graham County. When you see pics and hear nice things, you should be feeling great because you helped make it that way. Wear those staff shirts with PRIDE. You were part of a winning successful safe event. Rest up... because September 29 & 30? WE GONNA' DO IT AGAIN!
BIGGER, BETTER, MORE DRIVERS, MORE COOL CARS... COOLER TEMPS, LEAVES CHANGING, CHIGGERS WILL BE SLEEPING... THIS will be even MOAR EPIC than the last one! ;D Might even arrange a few celebrity entrants that will surprise you. Think BIG and stay tuned for more information...
Ya'll take care... any thoughts for improvements, potential problems, ideas to make it more fun for spectators, drivers or staff... PLEASE email me at ted@ccrscca.com It was GREAT... it can still be better.

I had a blast as always. We had a lot of new workers and I hope they can make it back. Me and Don talked about some ideals for September that might help the workers a little. See you all then. Chad

The event was fantastic I appreciate allowing the media on-site, I was there shooting for my new Knoxville based internet automotive blog and will be putting up an article by next weekend as soon as we get our photographs together. I had the help of friends and between the 5 of us I am hoping that we will have a picture of each participant. The article will be split up most likely into a few different days. I'll be stalking the forum for go-pro footage etc, some of the drivers I did get the chance to speak to, when I was at the pits. If any of the drivers would like to contact us with more information on there cars I'd be happy to add it to the article. I look forward to dragon III come september, we'll be there shooting again. Thank you all for an incredible weekend. An amazing group of volunteers. What Ted said: Dragon 3.0 will be bigger and better, so make your plans now!

Just wanted to say that it was great to meet two very cool and fast guys, Joe Bryan Payne and Scott Sipler. They both drive the M word car. Joe drives the Ita Miata and Scott the turbo Miata, which i believe is SU. We had alot of fun going back and forth on times. They both cooked me. Congrats guys and i reallyyyy enjoyed it. Hope to see you in the fall. Take care, wally.

Last weekend I had a different perspective of a hill climb the spectator side, and watching people's reactions clearly made me realize just how much fun they were having. Not just the kids but their parents also. Watching kids faces while the drivers were giving autographs made my weekend and their day. Thanks Vicki for telling some of them that I was a driver too, I really wasn't feeling much like one that helped a lot. Everyone did an awesome job, but how are you gonna top it? Can't wait to find out.

Phenomenal weekend. It was much more fun driving then spectating. That being said we could not have done this without the help of all the volunteers and various staff so THANK YOU to all who made this possible. The surface repairs made for some interesting cornering but a special thanks to the corner workers sweeping between runs! All in all I had a blasty blast and hope to squeeze in running the September event. If not I will be in attendance to make sure everyone else gets their opportunity to drive. Lastly THANK YOU TED!!! Like everyone else has said you are the sole reason all of this came to be and that it went as smoothly as it did so hats off and much gratitude for all that you did.
