I was able to sell my infinity wheels so have some cash for the Miata. I'd like opinions. I'm torn between two options: 1: Megasquirt, I've figured out what I need. Or 2: www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?deptid=4537&parentid=0&stocknumber=13-16250%20%201990-97%20NB in the 90-97 NB version My car currently has Koni sports and 350/250 spring. Front sway is 7/8ths. Which choice would benifit me the most. As always, thanks for the help. Racing is a lot to learn.

I thought about that but I'm not sure just what shape they are in, no clue how many miles. I'd definitely have to have them revalved for heavier springs. It's still a consideration.

What do you plan on doing with the Miata? Does it have a roll bar? A Hard Dog Hard Core dual diagonal will stiffen the chassis and should not knock you out of any class as it's a Safety Item. Remember, Miatas are all about carrying speed. If you want some easy HP install a Jackson Racing CAI(it actually gets air from in FRONT of the radiator and has a short distance to intake) and decent header(although the stock 1.6 header is pretty darn good). Those things and cut weight. Do you need A/C? Power Steering? Those two things alone can drop around 30 pounds off the car. Depending on your class consider an aluminum fly wheel. If it's elimination of the dead spot between 1st & 2nd gear and you can legally use them, 13" wheels work wonders.
And, when all else fails...seat time can work wonders.

The car has a hard dog style bar right now, Jackson racing header, no cat, borla exhaust, '95 1.8 in a '90 chassis, cheap cai because stock was all broken. AC removed, no power steering, 22mm front sway with 949 end links , no rear, 15x7 wheels with 205/50 Kumho xs. Shocks are Koni sports with 350/250 springs ride at about 12.5". Heavier springs were suggested which means revalving to add 700/450 or 700/350 springs(not sure which). The FM vmax extreme are 504/336 but use NB mounts so I don't lose travel lowered. I'm open to suggestions since I'm just learning this.

I thought you were coming at this with a more modestly modded Miata. Personally, I'm not a big fan of giving money to aftermarket parts suppliers. It's easy to end up with a bunch of "go-fast" parts that you're not satisfied with. Which brings me back to seat time. You might be better off selling the style bar and installing a HardCore(which will allow you to use the car for track days as well) and start logging as much seat time as possible.
If you start making adjustments on a regular basis you have a harder time learning to drive a given set-up. I've seen people buy cars that are proven to be fast only to "make improvements", end up going slower and complaining the car they bought wasn't any good.
There is no "perfect set-up" either. Several years ago there was a Time Trial at CMP. About 10 Miatas were entered in CSP, with just about every combo you could think of 1.6, 1.8, bored 20 & 40 over, tire sizes and makes all over the place, just about every different suspension piece you could think of, intakes, outtakes, shift kits, you name it. The difference between 1st and 8th was under 1 second.
There may be no substitute for cubic inches(or dollars) but, logging seat time is cheaper and more fun than working a spring compressor or engine hoist.
Just my 2ยข.

I plan on swapping to a hard core and race seat at some point. I don't just want to throw money at it. I dropped in some cheap springs to replace two damaged OEM springs. I try to talk to as many people as possible for ideas and ask lots of beginner questions. Now I just want to set it up decent. Thank you a lot for your input.

I remember replacing the rollover bar in my MGB with a full cage. I could not drive it first time out. So the first step should be a non flexy frame. after that i agree fully with Mark. three ways to go faster: 1. seat time
2. seat time
3. seat time.
any suspension changes you make to a flex box is probably wasted time.

If you are looking to change parts.... Racing beat 1.125" hollow front sway bar and disconnect the rear. Your shock/spring setup is too soft for autocross, I'd go with the Koni yellow and at least 500/300 combo for springs. But if nothing else get the RB sway bar you'll thank me later. You really don't need a lot of power to be top dog in a miata.
