Really? Results posted by 1:00 PM and we took away the 5th run so early in the first run group? Blah!
I liked the course today, though short. For me it was very... let's say... spinny.

Slow crossover times meant we didn't want to take chances of it running late. We still did a lot of fun runs at the end if you stuck around.

Yeah, I know. I had to cut out early today, but I'm just pissed at myself for blowing a run that could have been put to good use. Sorry again to those corner workers at the end of the course. Good to see you were on your toes.

I just think that if your going to change run per person it should be done later into the first group. Not after only one run. I personally rather have 5 comp runs and no fun runs.

I like extra competitive runs just like the next guy, but at the same time our core workers really put in quite an effort this weekend with the Intermediate school and this event so I think it was probably good to just stick with 4 runs and get the event wrapped up a little sooner than later.
Also, awesome job on the live timing Steven (and anyone else that helped you)! I'm also amazed at how quickly the results were posted. Thanks so much!

Honestly? I was suprised when AJ said 5 runs at the drivers meeting. Like Steven said, the course design meant you couldn't allow a second car on course until the first was almost to the finish. Thankfully, no major timing issues.. But you can't plan on everything going perfectly.
4 runs is enough. The odds are you wouldn't get faster on run #5. Not impossible, but not likely. Now if you could do 10-15 runs, then maybe.
Those with the "need for speed" hung around and did fun runs - Each group pretty much ended after the participants parked, having had enough.

Live Timing was a big success. Those with Jitterbugs will not be left out of the loop though. We just did not set up the tv this weekend. When paperwork is done neatly, it makes results audits easy Thank mr Duckles for his efforts in getting the live results working. This was all him and he has been cussing for three months when he gets on site and it won't work. I thought there was a time in the car and there wasn't. Chris wanted some redemption to catch back up to my time. I found that e car wasn't going to go faster, and then I started thinking of not tearing up the Hoosiers. Yea yea, I'm a nice co drive like that.

Duck all that baby punching obviously paid off Thanks! I've been practicing!! ZMax should go smoother, and I'm going to have nice signs with QR codes AND the TV running showing results. Even bought a remote for it after we found out the one it came with is just dead.

Based on the results from the last time we ran metrolina, Of the 125 drivers that entered times, 75 of them, the best lap was their last lap. Further more, at the last zmax event 74 of the 137 drivers also had their fastest lap as their last lap. I only look at these 2 random events to compare but it seems to me that having that one extra lap does make a difference in competition runs. Id rather see more comp runs and then if we get lucky to have fun runs, great! The thing thats great about fun runs is you dont care, theres no pressure and often if you screw up its no big deal. I need practice to perform under pressure. Thats what competition runs provide, and as i get better ill look to base my self off nation tour rules of 3 run competition.

Whoopsy! - I posted that comment without researching it. I doubt this will be the last time 5 runs are announced, but we don't get 'em. I'd rather have this result than get deep into the 2nd group and figure out we can't give the rest of the participants the same number of runs that the first group had. At least it was equal for everybody. Performance Pressure is mental. If you want the pressure - look at the final competition times right before fun runs, and push yourself to beat those times. Not exactly the same I realize, but you get the idea.

the event was dropped from 5 down to 4 runs early in the day to make sure that evrything went in a timely manner. I would also like to point out that everything went flawlessly in this event... How many events do we go through with no timing problems, no blown engines with cars and oil all over the crouse, etc...? Travis I think you've been to enough events to know that we have to account for a problem or two. The change was made just in case that problem happened.
Besides as you said I think the rules say 3 runs, count that 4th as a freebe. the 5th wouldve been gravy. Lets not focus on what we didn't get.

Travis T, you are right! I didn't realize how flawless the event was. The only real hiccup was you worked the course :/ I know.
We can easily go back to three runs and this topic will never come back again. Mike and I agreed that four runs for our regionals is how we want to do it. With a low turn out, getting greedy would have been nice, but it is. Feel free to volunteer to be event chair. Then it's your call.

T-Ball, what run was the last run? Was it not the 4th run? We have done 4 competition runs at each of the CCR weekend events this year (except Michelin, we wanted to do 4, but couldn't). And for the sake of the competition, you should do the same number of competitive runs each time. You don't decide you are going to play 12 innings of baseball on gameday.

If the worst complaint about an event is we had four runs and the event ran flawlessly, I'd say it was a tremendous day!
I am glad to see CCR having this discussion on the number of runs. It shows the lessons of Kershaw (twice in three years) may not have been lost: Set the number of runs based on what reasonably might go wrong, not on best-case. And don't be afraid to make changes to the number of runs if you see problems developing, such as unexpectedly long crossover times. In hindsight, I agree we could have easily gotten a fifth run this weekend, maybe more. But that's hindsight. Decisions must be made with the information available at the time.

I'm just sayin...
75 drivers 3 run groups 25 drivers in a run group 40 seconds per run 5 runs per driver 15 minute change over between groups
25 drivers * 40 seconds * 5 runs = 5,000 seconds = 83.3 minutes + 15 minute changeover = 98.3 minutes per run group * 3 run groups = ~300 minutes = ~5 hours
5 hours leaves two hours of wiggle room to start at 10:00 AM and finish at 5:00 PM. Considering i was generous on the number of drivers, the release time of each driver, and rounding up a bit, AND we still have a safety factor of 1.4 on time, I felt the 5th run was a good bet.
But I live in a theoretical world of numbers and statistics... I'm an engineer, not a realist.

Dean is right. We have learned a lot. I've tried to find our flaws and correct them all season. However I think the sheer size of the zMax events have led to this but I agree.
Others beat me to it. Andy it is impressive that you thought that way, and over estimation. That is what gets thought about. I am good at on the fly mental math, but a back up human calculator would be helpful.

I'm not trying to down-play Mike and AJ's position and responsibilities. I only see maybe half the work (or less) that they put into it, and that's enough to make me tired just watching them. That calculation was the first thing that went through my head when Amy was walking through grid telling us we were down to 4 runs. All other reasoning makes sense for dropping that 5th run (CMP nightmares, consistency with other events, etc.). I guess I was just let down considering the math was working out so well in favor of a 5th run (for once). Everyone who isn't a decision maker will always comment on how they would do things differently. Its the American way, lol. Keep doing what you're doing guys... the criticism is out of love for the people and the sport.
