Well not really the work/ car is just fine, but their people skills suck. Ive never had a complaint about the actual work. But Im sure Kuhn has more experience with them. Although my car is the least prepped ASP car it holds its own.

Oh I've never dealt with Draco personally, just based an opinion on what I've herd about their customer service.

From personal experience they quoted me 900 to corner balance, I mean 900? Really. Felt like I was getting raped
I did see this guy on a forum back in June that wrote a 3 page report on how his car got messed up by them

900 to corner balance is ridiculous. You can buy a set of scales for a little more than that...That's what I did The first few times I was corner balanced I was charged $240. Now I'll do it for people for... alot less than that.

Draco is a lot like Driven. I've seen a few nice cars from them, but all I've ever heard from anyone is the crappy work and service they do. The only nice cars that put out are generally people who work there or close friends of the owners.
Mike I didn't know you were offering corner balancing services. Well when I get adjustable suspension some day I'll have to give you a call.

I've bantered with Kuhn for quite a while about getting corner balanced in his garage... Now that I finally feel happy with a suspension setup I might just follow through on my threats.

Since people are crunching timeframe numbers, the 4 runs was not a time issue for me, it was a competition issue. Autocross is a get it done NOW game and 5 runs is too much. We do 4 runs and have done so at each weekend event this year.
As for corner balance go to Rankins shop, 42 Autosport. Jon K did mine for under $200. I think it was under 2 hours @ $75 an hour for my car.

I tried to get in touch with Rankins last week(ish) but never got through or heard back. Someone said he is currently out of town/country? Anyone know more?

Rankins and Jon K are out Traveling the US this month...I'm not sure where or what for.
And both times I went to 42 Autosports it was $240. They did a good job with it and had good knowledge...
But if you want a better deal...I might do it for half of that.

Hey kuhn,
Sugar and cataloochee are open, 2 more weekends of racing then its time to put the snowboard rack on the mini for the winter. What kinda board do you ride btw?

I bought a Never Summer Evo last year after my board was stolen the first weekend I was up at Sugar. I love the reverse camber on it. I'll be ready to go once App is open hopefully the 21st or so.

App said the 15th. But I looked at the slope cam and it still looks grass with frost on it. I need to free ride some before heading up with you. I haven't road really since winter 2010. Also I have a k2 ctx binding and granted they are easy to get into. But they are heavy as heck. Any suggestions on bindings?

weve been members at App for about 12 years ,,,I've never seen them actually get open until about Thanksgiving weekend . Right now I'm drooling over Snowshoes 40" of powder and hear the backwoods there summoning my board !

Drum can I be your adopted son. Snowshoe is perfect if you have a few people to go and split cost. But solo is crazy expensive. Lift tickets are like 100 A day last time i went.

Rooms can be done for $100 per night and lift tickets can be found for $89 . For the Terrain at Snowshoe I'll pay that at least once or twice a year . We ski all season at App for under $400 per person so thats where we spend most of our time . I'm old and the Shorter runs at App fit me perfectly

We do 4 runs and have done so at each weekend event this year. i have said on several threads: we need a set number of runs. foot-whatever has 4 quarters. Basebat has 9 innings. Basket throw has something. Autocross should have a finite number. That said Nationals has 3 runs. That is Nationals. locally we can do 4 runs, and that is great, we are not Nationals. It is about the fun. We are not formula one, but we need a finite number of countable runs. Strategy should count in some form. With 4 runs we know what counts, what do we change, modify our line? Tire pressure? We know going in we have a finite (4) runs.

Mike I get your point to fine tune your skills in 3 runs, but it is nice to get more than 3 runs. It can be on your own to say"no my fastest wasn't within my runs" and everyones happy. Giving 4 runs doesnt take away from those that like to do it in three. I think 4 is a happy medium that most events can support.

I have to disagree with you James, respectably.
The National events might be about strategy and getting it down in 3 runs. But I feel that the local events is about fun, learning, and retainment of participants. The more runs someone new to autocross gets, the more they are going to want to come back, and the faster they are going to learn. As for the strategy of getting it done in 3 runs like at Nationals, we could implement the same policy ATL does where only the first 3 runs count for the class results(They only use this rule if you run in PRO class)
I think the amount of runs at a given event should be determined by the amount of participants, as well as the length of the course.
It could be a formula as simple as, less than 100 entries = 5 runs, and more than 100 entries = 4 runs.
Not saying that i'm disappointed with 4 runs, That's usually fine with me especially for the bigger sites like Zmax. But with only 70 people registered on a sub-40 second course, 5 runs would have went by within our time limit no problem, even if timing errors were to occur.
Just my .2 cents.

Triad has been using our Pro Class for those wanting to get it done in 3 runs for 7 years now ( ATL borrowed that from us ) but it still gives those guys any additional runs to build on their Pax and Raw standings . We seem to do well with that format . We usually try to get 4-5 competition runs depending on lot conditions , number of entrants and crossover time . We try to be cautious with the number of runs and would rather finish up much too early than a little to late . Finishing up way early we do $1 and sometimes free fun runs , this allows those that just wanted the competition to leave early and those that want more seat time can get a few more runs,,,,win for everyone . Go in expecting 4 runs , 5 is a bonus if it can easily be done , fun runs just another bonus if theres time for that

First ,thank you for being respectful. i agree with you. i would like to see six or eight runs. The more the merrier. And as you said it WILL help retention. My point being: i love more runs, but the first four count. The rest can be Practice, adding to experience, or just plain fun. Plainly stated, four runs locally to count + any more we can tuck in for added value and fun. The difference between anarchy and civility is rules. Your thoughts on this? thanks for listening

I don't want to ping pong back and forth with the ammount of runs depending on the event and participation. I feel 4 runs is a good middleground for our local events. And if you need more seat time thats why we do fun runs. I would have stayed and done 4 hours of fun runs at Metrolina, but people kinda started to dissappear.
And basket throw, awesome James!

Corner balancing isn't quite an exact science. It really is a lot of time and guess and check. It is even tougher if the chassis is tweaked. Thursday night we had a chassis on the scales for maybe four hours trying to get it close, chassis was tweaked.
More runs is great, but in competition it can get tiring. I've found six runs in a day wears me out. Four is great for regional and then fun runs are awesome. Thank you Andy for the kind words.

I love the idea of a pre-set number of runs for each event. It's nice knowing that I will be given X amount of chances to try and place as high up on the overall raw and PAX as I can. Considering generally I'm the only STF driver I generally don't worry about class standings. Having a pre-set number of runs would elminate a lot of confusion and hecticness at the events. But I also see it becoming a problem as well. All kids of things go wrong at these events. Timing is guaranteed to go postal at lest two times. Cars can break down or wreck off course (i.e. CMP MazdaSpeed3). More than enough close calls to timing lights being annihilated. And the ever present fear of snow interupting the event with it's loud light shows. If we were set to 5 runs per event and the of chance we get delayed for an extended period of time again that just pushes everything back and requires more time to ensure all the drivers get their set 5 runs. And don't get me wrong I love spending 12 to 13 hours at an event, but not everyone is like me. I wasn't at this most recent event, so I'm only seeing what happened via this thread. The variables of course length, number of drivers, chance of being delayed in starting and the greater chance of huge interruption all will affect the time for the amount of runs. I see nothing wrong with the way we determine run numbers at each event on a case by case basis.
Oh and as it's being winter we need a new word to replace 'snow.' We say it might 'snow' and it actually could start really snowing.

It seems like the main issue was announcing 5, then retracting it to 4. (Then ending early)
I propose we establish the 4-run standard, and stop thinking about more.
I think it's a fair balance of competition with a reasonable finishing time window that allows for disruptions like timing glitches, broken cars and torrential thunderstorms.
Believe me, I'd like an event with 7 or 8 competition runs, but the problems are not predictable, and leaves the possibility of not giving the last run group all they deserve. We have to err on the side of fairness for all the competitors and respect the time of those that are setting up and tearing down these events.
