One thing to put a damper on how you look at our fellow competitors ,,Geoff's wallet was left in place but the money was taken out , correct ? If so then it was someone Geoff knows , probably very well . A thief that didnt belong wouldnt have taken the time to sift through the wallet for cash and then leave it in the van . He would have grabbed it , stuffed it in his pocket and sorted through it some where else . Leaving the wallet means it was someone that felt comfortable hanging around the van for a few minutes , someone that just wanted the cash but didnt want Geoff to have to cancel credit cards or get a new license , etc . There were dozens of us through there all day and didnt notice anything ,, thats because it was someone we know and didnt think twice about them hanging around ......Just my thoughts ...

We often don't have 2-3 extra workers. Some events we are lucky to have enough people to work course We have a Waiver worker all day, right? There's one. Go Get 'em Sheriff Ball.

Correct that the wallet was left in place, just cash missing nothing else.
My initial thought was the same as others to have paddock marshalls. The flip side, it is known that there is always someone, that belongs, walking through the paddock. Of course with all of the new faces each month, it makes it harder to even dedicate people to patrol because who knows if they do belong in that trash bag full of tools. By no means do I want to turn a blind eye. Everyone should be made aware of the happening and be more alert. I hate to look at it that way though.

Sorry, this thread makes me sick. This is not the sport i love, or have grown used to. For many years, we, the autocross community felt safe. Sure we knew in some Mall lots things were different. But at most venues we were safe. How do we recover that trust? If the perpetrator is on here, realise you do not want to get caught. You are not one of us and will be treated as such. I HATE A THIEF. learn to make your own way in the world.

The event is still open to the public. I thought it would be common sense to not leave something as important as your wallet in plain sight unattended. I wouldn't leave mine in sight with my car locked sitting in my own driveway.
Still a shame it went missing though.

Doug, I'm serious about leaving open cash on the dashboard and it not getting touched. Leaving wallets in open gloveboxes, seats, cup holders is common. We have so much trust in our fellow nut cases and RARELY ever have a problem. Before this in my five years, I've heard of one wheel disappear. That is amongst all of e clubs I folllow.

AJ, I agree that we all feel this way and have all done things like that ...
but even amongst our own folk ... you/we really shouldn't put that kind of temptation in front of people ...
I'm as guilty of this as anyone ... and I'm sorry it took a tough reminder like this to force me to be a little more careful

Although everyone has always said you can leave this in the car or that on the dash. I have been putting my stuff in the center console and locking it from day 1 of autocross. Being from NYC originally, I don't trust people, and I will always lock my wallet and take my keys. It only takes 1 person to ruin your day when stuffs go a missin'
