Realize its a bit early but our local events are starting to get locked down for 2013 and I want to make sure to plan for another trip down next year. Any insight on prospective dates and venues?

THANKS for interest! Eric is right... June 15-16 is presently scheduled for Dragon IV... and Dragon V is scheduled for August 3-4. These dates are tentative... we hope to lock them in at Jekyll. We are working on another possible site for a hillclimb...nothing definite yet. It is looking more likely that Crow will be added to the schedule but again... nothing definite yet. THANKS! In Southern Driver there is another date, June 23 - 24 (!) for 2013 Dragon IV event.
So which weekend is it, Jun 15 - 16 or Jun 22 - 23 ?

Can you tell us what has been going on with the folks in northeast Alabama that might get Crow Mountain up and running again? I certainly hope so. I love going there. I'm trying to talk an ex-endurance driver (Daytona, Sebring) into getting into this and am looking for a firm schedule to send him and try to get him to come north out of Tampa to see a weekend of bergrennen.

Right now, Crow does not look good. We are working on another hillclimb site in the Carolinas to go along with the two Dragons. We will not be able to put out a firm schedule until the Jekyll Island Annual Meeting, January 19 & 20... the Regional Executives thumb wrestle on dates and events schedules are finalized at that point. Steve has a strong thumb.
We DO have some VERY positive news for the SEDIV Time Trial program that will be announced at Jekyll ...and the new site is looking very promising. STAY tuned! 2013 will be a great year... we are excited about new programs in track and hillclimb events!

Crow is not going to happen. TVR BOD decided to concentrate its efforts in another direction.

As good as Dragon is I would love to try another site. June Dragon is already in my plans for 2013 but a second site might just temp me to make two long hauls next year. Hope this works out.

Ted, I took the Dragon date you supplied in this thread as gospel and arranged my schedule to drive up there the weekend of the 14th and now I find out by calling the tourism group up there that the race is the next weekend.

Please look at the post above and that is quoted below. That date was tentative pending approval at the SE division meeting and has been posted for many months as corrected. Very sorry this caused you problems. For the furure, please look at our master Southeast Division schedule at www.sedivracing.org for all events on the SCCA calander in our area. June 15-16... that is TENTATIVE date. I'll correct The Southern Driver webpage. Thanks, Lars!

Jock, I am so sorry. We certainly did not wish to mislead you in anyway. We have to work with SCCA schedules for Solo, Time Trial, Road Racing all over the Southeast as well as the schedules for events with the Nantahala Forest Services, Graham County Tourism, City of Robbinsville Chamber, town and county Council, NC Highway Department and NC - Department of Transportation. Getting all these schedules to synch is difficult and we cannot give a FINAL commitment on date until we have buy in and approval from all. That's why we used the dates in this thread with the words "June 15-16... that is TENTATIVE date." and "These dates are tentative... we hope to lock them in at Jekyll." I am very sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused you. If you have reservations in Robbinsville, let me know... I will do my best to try to help you get them changed. If you can still make it to the event, your lunch is my treat. Again, please accept my apologies. Ted

Wasn't a prob; however we missed the tiny turn off sign and went past the dam. But we learned it had been used in "The Fugitive" so we were glad we did. Got to see a lot of really cool cars at the climb and on the road, I've never seen so many bikes! Elvira was running well.

Glad you had a good time.... you are the second to mention that turn sign so I WILL fix that before next event. Event Staff did a great job of keeping course safe, drivers kept it on the asphalt and drove well..no major incidents, EMS never rolled, wrecker drivers played a lot of Solitaire... kids had fun, spectators stayed cool and got great views of cars and action, we had great food all weekend and an awesome social. Our counterparts in Robbinsville and Graham County did a beautiful job of making things happen on their end... great long term mutually beneficial relationship. Thanks to all drivers who signed up for their first hillclimb and took a leap of faith... I KNOW ... you do not regret it! Get busy... 5 weeks of preparation and we'll do it again. DRAGON 5.0 is COMING!

The Graham County tourism folks told me that numerous clubs now hold hill climbs there. It would be nice to have an advisory board of the clubs to work with the tourism folks to make it continually better. Of course the US Forest Service would want in, also.

What other clubs hold hillclimbs there? I've searched the internet and can only find the SCCA one.

Verified with town officials and Forest Services.... SCCA is the ONLY organization being allowed to run hillclimbs. With the insurance requirements and safety /operations requirements of Forest Services and County, I think we may be the only ones for a while.

That's what the woman at the tourism bureau there told me. But it is a great place for clubs like Porsche, Corvette, Trabant or whatever. I'd like to see Smart Cars going up the hill.
