I want to run STC in open class (no modifiers I N L)
I don't want to run in the intermediate PAX class yet I don't want to be in a class of 1 or 2. At the same time, I'd like to finish in the top third of STC (in a respectable class size) at the end of the year.
I am an old-timer when it comes to autocross. When I started, the open classes were where everyone who wasn't a novice competed. When PRO came along, that is where the really good drivers went. Novice was for beginners. "Intermediate" sounds too intermediate to me. I've been autocrossing since 1999. If STC doesn't look to have a strong field, I'll just go get my arse kicked in PRO.

Ali and Tad are the only ones I know of that have STC cars and ran them with any regularity last year. Tad didn't make all of the events, and Ali was talking about selling his STC Civic for something else.... so... might just be you.
Just go to the intermediate class and don't let your ego put you somewhere you know you can't be competitive.

Ali is NOT running STC this year. The civic is about to be gone and he now has a Miata.

You could always. Run F prep again and have an old 944 and an ancient Saab to kick around

I was in E-prep. Didn't have enough tire.
So this year I bought some new RS-R tires for STC, installed my stock transmission, and put the interior back in.
I can't afford to buy a couple of sets of slicks each year. I also don't want to invest too much money in horsepower.

I just got some, and I've only drove them around the block once. They seem to be pretty sticky.

This time around I am not using them on the street. I was quite pleased with them especially since they are priced really well. The tires are pretty sticky. IMHO, the 140 treadwear rating is optimistic; they seem softer than that. They take heat well and get stickier after they warm up. I don't spray them with water between runs because they didn't get greasy. At the end of their life they get hard and lose grip. All things considered, I believe the Federal 595 RS-R is a great buy.

Good to hear. You definitely can't beat the price.

Hankook RS3's are very good tires. I got a full season out of them running crazy ammounts of events. Ran 40 or so days of autocross with various local clubs and 5 trips driving to and from ATL and other events on them. And with cASSino as a co-drive, so the abuse is pretty high.
My issue is the sidewalls are soft due to a 140 treadwear rating. So I prefer Direzzas which can get about the same life, but perform better.

Back to the main topic. I ran N STC last year and I am deciding what class I want to run as well. My girlfriend will also go to that same class as well. At the end of last year, I was told that I could run my car in STX if I wanted to. That may be what I do because it should be a very large competitive group this year. Or... I might just show up in my track car and run XP, or Tire XP if that is even possible.
