Yes, I already posted this in the Site Acquisition Sub-Board, but it dosn't seem to see a lot of traffic as much the regular Solo board does. Found a possible new site. It's near downtown Charlotte and located next door to the Bojangles Coliseum. Zooming in shows a few lights poles similar to zMax and ample space as well.

We've been there, done that... small lot, close neighbors (apartments), lot isn't level, pavement is pretty rough (or was).

I'm all for new sites but it seems like we've been around long enough in the Charlotte area and nothing new that is of Zmax quality is poping up. Maybe we should focus more on getting the number of average racers up to 150+ so that we can profit every time off of Zmax. People will drive 2-4 hours for a site like Zmax, just like I drive 3 hours for Danville, Atlanta..ETC. That's how we get the numbers up.

Good looking Shorty.
But I Agree. No grid / paddock convenience. It has 2 small parking huts that make it annoying for a course set-up. And it is smaller than Metrolina, only 650-350.
If anyone wants to help look for sites, please do so, and post up your findings. They must have a course area hopefully 300,000 sq/ft or more, with a nearby grid and paddock space.
Regional airports have great potential for autocross sites, so if you know of any that may be out of use or like Danville, have an unused section of runway, post it up.

Keep your eyes open. There are several reasons why Charlotte and NC in general has few options(zoning, building codes in particular). Remember, there were several years when Knights and Continental were it. Interestingly, the guy at Metrolina that helped us get in there left The Park(formerly Merchandise Mart) that is pictured above.
Also, don't let a little undulation stop a site from being considered. I understand the idea that Nationals run on a flat surface but, off camber and elevation changes make it interesting. I much prefer Mid-Ohio to CMP. At Mid-Ohio you're either going up, down, left or right or a combination all the time...WOOHOO!

Michael, I understand what you're saying .. the avg does need to stay high to make Z-Max profitable ... but just for the record, the 5 events at Z-Max last yr averaged 153.6 ( taken from the raw results) granted it did decrease from the first to the last event

Whatever happened to the various baseball stadiums in the region we used to run on years go? In my opinion, lot variation is good and so is geographical variation. Using more than one lot means we don't have to use variations of the same course over and over again. Geographical variation also means club members around CCR can have their own "home" track.

Frodo - don't let a "no" answer discourage you from looking, suggesting or trying. If every parking lot was perfect, and sites were easy to get, we'd have lots of lots. :-)
I like zMAX. It's a national quality facility, but I don't want to run there every event.. -or- I'd like to see something a bit "out of the box" on that site.

I don't let the little things stop me when I have a goal in mind. I spent a solid 3 hours today before work scrolling all over Google maps looking for places. And don't get me wrong; I love zMax as much as the rest of us. But variety is the spice of life afterall. Good looking Shorty. But I Agree. No grid / paddock convenience. Me and Duck spent a nice little while searching for airports to use in the area. Most that we found only have one runway which would shut them down for a whole day if we used it. Hickory seemed to have a set-up similar to Danville we could maybe use. I have all day off tomorrow. I plan on dedicating a portion of it to more site searching. And speaking of sites...what ever happened to City Park?

The only airport in our region that has a 2nd runway is Hickory. It might be worth talking to them, but I'm fairly certain I'm not the first one to think of that airport either. maps.google.com/maps?q=hickory+regional+airport&ll=35.744109,-81.388993&spn=0.028074,0.055747&fb=1&gl=us&hq=hickory+regional+airport&hnear=hickory+regional+airport&cid=0,0,9489462808714065718&t=h&z=15

Just as a note , BRR used to run an Airport with a single runway . They gridded and paddocked in the parking lot and ran on the area in front of the hangars ,the taxi way and part of the runway . Only had 1 plane on Sundays (a commuter flight) and they simple took a 20 minute break and picked up the few cones in the way of the landing . New management wasnt motorsport (or police training) friendly so they lost it.

We used to run this lot years ago when I was AutoX chair, as well as the larger lot to the right of it. Both were owned at the time by the people who owned the Charlotte Merchandise Mart, which was privately owned. The facility has of course since been sold.
They eventually stopped letting us run them because of noise complaints from neighbors. As best as I can recall, we got the lots for free. The problem was that, since it was the Merchandise Mart, we could only get them when there wasn't a show, and thus couldn't book a verified date more than a month or two in advance. Also, our agreement stipulated that a paying show took precedence, though I don't ever remember having to cancel an event there.

I appreciate the effort Josh, but have you ever been in that lot. If its the one I'm thinking of, lots of slope and the pavement is TORN up BAD.
Keep looking

And speaking of sites...what ever happened to City Park? That lot was falling apart after 2 events rather quickly. Just ask my Burke High Flow Cat that did 1 event before getting a dent. Anyone follow up with my Winthrop lot? It was bank T-Ball if you have something, don't be so damn lazy and post a link, a pic, something. The only airport in our region that has a 2nd runway is Hickory. All we would need is just the end of the north/south runway. Someone make it happen.

Just a thought, but has anyone ever looked at Concord Motorsports Park on Hwy 601 just south of Concord NC. They have two small tracks with some infield area. I'm not sure if there is enough room there, I know they have held drift events there. Just a thought.

It has been brought up before for a 24 hour a few years ago. They are holding a drift event on the same day as zMax.
