Im registered for tire class but had a question? What is the tread wear minimum to be allowed to be in tire class? I am running a street legal tire that comes on the car however I fear it maybe below the tire class rule for thread wear. Mine is 80...

Well nuts then! Guess I can go to intermediate unless the tire class folks don't object.

if you're considering T or I, why not run your open class ... if it's stock the 80 TW is fine ... if ST, not so fine , if SP or up, you're golden

I would most likely be the only car in my open class. So I wanted more competition but based on my pax and the fact all intermediate class cars can run Hoosiers, I'm kinda screwed.

If I'm not mistaken, You can only run Hoosiers in intermediate if your base class allows them.

You can run a lesser tire if you want. Of course you will behind everyone else when it comes to equipment.
What happened to the Hoosiers you had on your Vette at the end of last season?

I still have them but I switched to the michelin cup tire so that I can learn the car more.

( if you're the Corvette signed up in T class [base class SS] ) then there are already 2 others in open SS ... now if they aren't any competition for you, then the choices involve changing tires, moving up into SP or going in I class .

140 tread wear is still the minimum for Tire class. You will have fun in Intermediate.

If we stopped reposting info in the forum. We would never post anything. Cause If you go back every question is repeated year after year. I'm glad we have tons of people helping out all the time. Compare our board with scr. They get a new post when ever Eric post about our next event.

I've never done an internet search and been happy with one answer. I always look for three different sources with the same or similar information. Not that Mike Kuhn isn't a credible source, but look at how much is changing in CCR and the SCCA right now. There was a proposition that RT be 180 tread wear. I'm fairly sure that got shot down, but it got us thinking of what to do with our Tire class. We opted to leave it all alone.

AJ, I think 180 is the rule for RT (though I wouldn't bet more than a nickel on my being correct )... and the Toyo 195/50/15 is on the exclusion list ( for RT, not for ST ) or our own T class

180 was proposed, but I believe it was not passed. I wasn't sure what all happened with the R1R. I know we can still use it though. For CCR we are staying with 140 for Tire class and the R1R is allowed. We thought about adopting RT classes, but we decided our Tire class is gone the way it is. It accounts for RT, in retrospect, but also includes all classes. It is a good regional class for those that want to prep their cars within the rule sets but not buy R comps.

the 195 is the only one you can't use it in RT ... T is a local class, we can make any rules we want ( so the ban on the 195 doesn't matter... it's ours to do with as we want ) ... you may be right about the 180 ....
the only real advantage ( I can see ) for the RT rule set is it gives the Stock class drivers ( on "street" tires) an additional PAX multiplier, so implementing with CCR would only dilute the T class

Tire class is our own We saw utilizing RT as just being more classes and also excluding some people. We did start adding the RT modifier to Tire class for overall results. I need to discuss with Licursi if we want to continue that or not. We used our own number vs national.

As a completely unbiased voter on the issue of continuing to use the RT pax multiplier for the Tire sub-class, I vote yes.....
