I would like to design some of my own numbers / class letters to use (within regulation sizes of course), but I can't seem to find any magnetic sheets for sale anywhere to do this.
Anyone happen to know where some can be gotten?
Thanks!

If you want to go the super cheap route, do like I did. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy some magnetic vent covers. They are 8"x15" and come 3 to a pack for around $5 or $6. Then draw your numbers/letters on with a sharpie and put a coat of clear on them.

Thanks srduck, I'll take a look at those. If you want to go the super cheap route, do like I did. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy some magnetic vent covers. They are 8"x15" and come 3 to a pack for around $5 or $6. Then draw your numbers/letters on with a sharpie and put a coat of clear on them. Hmm what is a magnetic vent cover? I looked in lowes and asked them about magnetic sheets and they didn't seem to know anything about any kind of magnetic stuff. What department would it be in?

NOTE!!! People at Lowe's are MORONS! I went into 3 different Lowe's asking for those before I finally found a guy who knew what I was talking about. Since then I've found them myself in all 3 different Lowe's. Look in the HVAC section all the way on the ground... and probably pushed halfway under a shelf and long since forgotten.
Note that they're very thin and not very magnetic-y. They're fine for vents with 2mph air coming out of them, but at 60mph it becomes a different story. If your door has any bondo work done to it, it might not stick and you might need some of the thicker magnets from the other places.

Srduck is right about the people at Lowe's. When you go, don't ask for magnetic vent covers, ask where the vents are, and then search them out yourself.
They've worked pretty good for me so far. I've driven up to 80mph with no problems. I wouldn't use them if you were planning on cutting the numbers out, but if you leave the sheets whole or at the most cut them in half, they should be fine. As long as like duck says, there's no bondo work.

I'll check them out at Lowes but I think I'm probably going to end up just ordering a 24" x 10' .030" roll from either magnetking or enduramag that srduck linked earlier. They are both pretty cheap for as much magnet material as you get. I'm thinking a 24" x 10' roll should be able to make 40 numbers at least (fewer of course mixing in class designation letters, but just an example that it would make an ample number of numbers hehe). And if I get something like the matte white roll, I can use acrylic paint to paint them whatever color I want.
Thanks again for the help!

I appreciate the suggestion! But my very first set of numbers came from Solotime. I was not impressed at all with their quality. They rolled up more than any other magnet I have seen / use. Also though, this isn't about simply getting numbers. It's so that I can design them however I want in whatever colors I want (as long as they are within regulations of course). But I do have to question, how is cutting out numbers from a magnetic sheet yourself any different than having someone like solotime cut them out?

Just call a sign shop. They gave me magnetic scraps for free. They were big parts.

If you want to be Vincent Van Hickerson with your numbers and you're master with the exacto knife, go for it. ;D
In my personal experience with the numbers I have from solotime has been great. Mine are 4 yrs old and look fine. And being around the timing trailer much of the day, the do it yourself cut out numbers get dropped of by couse workers quite a bit more than die cut, store bought numbers.

its the thickness of the magnetic sheet that matters.. The heavy stuff will not come off the car unless Scotty is telling you "she can't take much more"
This material won't come from a normal retail location.
