Since there have been some questions regarding Novice Class, Tire Class, and other "RTP or PAX" index classes, here is the latest index:
2006 PAX/RTP Index
"Racers Theoretical Performance"
This Index was developed by Rick Ruth and reflects study of results from over 200 nationwide Solo II events including, the Tire Rack® Solo II National Championships, National Tour, Chicago Region, Houston Region, Milwaukee Region, New England Region, Northern New Jersey Region, Philadelphia Region, Southeast Divisional Series, San Francisco Region, San Diego Region, South Jersey Region, Subaru CenDiv Series, Tri-State Sports Car Council, Texas Region, Wisconsin Autocrossers Inc., and several others.

Is it covered in school this Saturday or is this the stuff of pit area conversations?

I think these are the multipliers for the Novice class times. Take your actual time, find the multiplier for the class you would have been in, and derive your competitive time. It equalizes the novices, since they're all lumped.

It is also used for a number of other PAX-RTP classes (tire for ex.). We also use it to determine the "fastest driver - PAX" at each event. Follow the link Tweety provides above for more info.

Since AM (A-Modified is 1.000 then these are the best cars and so the driver's time is the time). HS H-Stock is the worst car so the driver gets his time lowered the most. Of course the most level playing field would be if we all took a spin in the A-Modified 1.000, then it would be who could drive the cousre the best.

So theoretically, my son and I could beat lagunamiata if our indexed time is better than his indexed time.

Is there a separate tire index or do the tires have more to do with the A,B,C,D,.. of each class?

So theoretically, my son and I could beat lagunamiata if our indexed time is better than his indexed time. Yup... in the PAX results. Take a look at the Feb event results. You'll see a HS Mini ahead of all STS2 cars. But if you look at the RAW time, the STS2 cars were actually faster.

Is there a separate tire index or do the tires have more to do with the A,B,C,D,.. of each class? Hmm, there really isn't a separate "tire" index if you mean for the "street tire" class we have at CCR. It uses the PAX index shown above. If you declare yourself in Tire Class, then you are in a separate group of competitors who are all running street tires across a wide range of classes. STS, STU, STX, etc are required to run "street tires" and they compete against themselves in their respective classes.

Would declaring yourself in Tire class, supercede your eligibility in the Novice class?

Huh? Ok..... I register as a BS Novice, then do I also register in the Tire class in CCR? Do I get scored in 2 classes?

yup - you only get one PAX...for example, my son didn't run in Novice his first year - he ran in Tire Class (PAX is the same either way - but your class determines who you are competing against)....so, no Tire Class/Novice/Ladies PAX.....
