ROUND 1 - ZMax Dragway - 4/13/13
The inaugural round of the 2013 SOLO Cup Tour kicked off at ZMax Dragway on Saturday the 13th. A last second scramble in the morning to form a team lead to Kraig Klippel, Lewis Wheeler, Nikki Edwards, and Michael Keogh grouping up, leaving 2 spots still to be filled.
The Cult of Pleiades came out on top at the end of the day with the Tolivers taking 57 points by themselves with Travis in 32nd, and Amy in 63rd. Add on John Wolf's 6 points for a total of 63 for the day.
Team Mazda would finish second, bolstered by Justin Mitchell's 4th place run and Kevin Chapman's 36th place for a total of 52 points. Unfortunately Michael Kuhn had car problems and had to forego his 4th run.
Team DysFUNction came in 3rd with roommates leading the way. Mike "The Great" cASSino's 8th place was good for 23 points, and AJ Snyder's 33rd spot added 28 for a total of 51 points.
Next up was Team BMW(ish) with 44 points. Eric Peck added 25 points for the team with a 66th overall finish, and Steven Duckworth was glad to forego the Tire PAX modifier for an 19 point 42nd finish, leading to 44 points total.
Team Topless showed what they had with Mark Marske taking 9th, Randy Cogburn 45th, and Sean Feeney barely edging in under the 90th place window at 88th for a total of 41 points.
The hastily assembled (and still yet to be formally named) "Team Last Second" started out with Kraig Klippel driving his corn juiced Mazda to 6th place and Nikki Edwards taking the Toyo'ed wonder to 48th for a total of 38 points.
And finally Team Borderline/Bad Company bringing up the rear. Alan Schoonmaker drove to 12th place overall for 19 points, and Anthony Hodges in Admiral James Jennings' Battlecruiser G8 finished in 76th for 15 points, putting then at 34 points.
Team Bad Company was without Stephen Ingram, and Team BMW(ish) was lacking John Byrd. Rest assured, both teams will beat their lackadaisical teammates mercilessly should there be any absence in the future.

ROUND 2 - Greensboro Park & Ride - 4/14/13
Round 2 of the SOLO Cup Tour came in rapid succession merely one day after Round 1. The teams once again assembled in Greensboro for Triad Sports Car Club's "Kalifornia Dreamin' Grand Prix". The still aptly-named "Team Last Second" added another member to their ranks with Daniel Wendel joining up.
Once again, The Cult of Pleiades dominated the competition. Travis Toliver took 14th overall for 17 points, Mina Ingraham placed 36th for 25 points, and Alex Lewis rounded out the team with a 69th place finish for 22 points. Pleiades finished the day with 64 points, putting them high atop 1st overall with a total of 127 in the standings.
For a ragtag group of misfits, some of whom had only met the day prior, "Team Last Second" had a strong showing for 2nd on the day. Kraig Klippel's 2nd overall finish added 29 points to the team's total, while Nikki's 32nd overall in Kraig's car with CSP PAX added another 29. The strong showing on day 2 puts them at 96 points total and 3rd place for the season.
Team Borderline/Bad Company finished the day in 3rd place with 56 points. Anthony Hodges, co-driving Mike Licursi's battered and beaten S2k, narrowly edged out his the car's owner with 4th place overall, good for 27 points. Jerry Sturgill put up 22 points with a 39th place finish, and Will Birchfield finished off the team's points with 7 points for 84th. Team Borderline/Bad Co moves up to 6th place for the season with 90 points.
Team BMW(ish), still missing team member John Byrd, finished 4th for the day. Steven Duckworth, though forfeiting one of his runs due to frustration, finished 8th overall, and Eric Peck came in 33rd. Ryan Gunter was the first to feel the wrath of the rules when his 30th finish left him one position away from a 30 point day. As it was, Steven's 23 points and Eric's 28 left Team BMW(ish) with 51 points on the day, leaving them 3rd on the day and 4th overall with 95 points.
Team Topless and Team DysFUNction tied for 5th on day 2 with 50 points each. DysFUNCtion's Mike Casino had an overall FTP on the day adding 30 points to the team's tally. Derek Jester finished 41st, adding another 20 for the team. In Topless-land, Mike Licursi grabbed 26 points with 5th place and Sean Feeney in his Solstice took 24 points for 37th place. This moves Team DysFUNction to 2nd overall with 101 points, and Team Topless to 5th with 91 points.
And finally, it was a tough day for Team Mazda. With Michael Kuhn's car still down and other members unable to make the event... Gregg Henderson, Kevin Chapman, and Justin Mitchell were the only team members on hand. All 3 drivers finished in the top bracket (7, 9, and 10), but unfortunately only one can score points for a bracket. Lucky number 7 was Gregg Henderson, giving the team their entire total of 24 points for the day. The day's points bring their total to 76 for the season leaving them in last place overall.
While Pleiades is off to a ferocious start, the season is still early and all teams get 2 drops, so the championship is still wide open. Join us for round 3 at Metrolina Expo with CCR on Sunday, May 12th... then round 4 at LJVM Coliseum with TSCC a week later on Sunday, May 19th.

ROUND 3 - Metrolina Expo - 5/12/13
Round 3 came on a beautiful Mother's Day at Metrolina Expo in Charlotte. Due to Mother's Day, turnout was a bit low, but a great event was still had by all.
After two less than stellar showings, Team Topless pulled out a victory bolstered by the strong showings of Mike Licursi in 5th and Andy Hildreth in 32nd. James Farris was out in a 1974 MG to bring home the final points in the C bracket.
Team DysFUNctional put together a 2nd place finish for the day. After a wheel issue forced him to change cars, Mike Casino finished 4th in PAX for 27 points. Derek Jester took the B bracket with a 43rd place finish, and Cyndi Duckworth grabbed the C bracket points with a 74th place finish.
Team Mazda rounded out the podium positions with 53 points. Michael Kuhn's first place overall finish added 30 points, while Will Guy's 38th finished off their tally. A welcome comeback after a low scoring event 2.
Team BMW(ish) saw the return of John Byrd to action in his Z3 so the bludgeoning weapons have been put away for the time being. Steven Duckworth finished 7th overall and Ryan Gunter 36th overall, leaving BMW(ish) with 49 points total in 4th place for the day.
The Cult of Pleiades fell from top of the podium for the first event after most of their positions fell in the top bracket. Travis Toliver grabbed 22 points with his 9th place and Alex Lewis gets 26 for 65th place, leaving the all wheel driven team 5th.
Team Last Second was missing their star performer Kraig Klippel and his 787b. Daniel Wendel's kart debut was enough to take 21st overall for 10 points, and Michael Keogh's 42nd grabbed 19 points, putting them 6th for the event.
And last but not least, Team Borderline/Bad Co finished 6th with 21 points. Team leader Anthony Hodges was not in attendance and will surely suffer most of the blame as Jerry Sturgill takes home all the team's points with a 40th overall finish. It should be noted, Will Birchfield narrowly missed a 30 point performance with a 60th place finish, and the Schoonmakers were there not in their Corvette, but instead a gorgeous classic Camaro built by Skoon's Hot Rods.
The overall standings changed, slipping from the event podium wasn't enough to shake Cult of Pleiades from the overall 1st place standings, though Team DysFUNctional is now nipping at their heels. A strong showing from Team Topless bumps them to 3rd overall, as BMW(ish), Mazda, Last Second, and Borderline/Bad Company round out the standings. The scores are still close, and with each team receiving two drop events, anything can happen.

Great work Duckles!! Have we shown everyone the unrivaled trophies of bragging rights yet?
Supposedly some questioned my antics of how I chose my team, but my cluster what methods brought together a dysFUNctional team with proven methods thus far. Everyone seems to be struggling with that Brackt C placing. It's going to be a key factor I believe. Congrats to Team Mazda on a great day two, not for points. Three drivers all in the top ten! Kudos!

Also forgot to give Jerry Sturgill of Team Borderline credit at ZMax for 81st in PAX There's only one points scorer per bracket, and since Hodges got 76th that takes care of the 61-90 for your team.

Ok, thanks. Wasn't sure how the system was broken down. I just went back and read Anthony's initial posting on TSCC forum on the rules. Amazing how you can see something the second time around. What's better is actually comprehending what you read the second time around. Thanks again

Thanks for the hard work Steven.. Pretty tight there in the middle.. 4 teams in the 90's
AJ- Since I have little chance of trophying in Intermediate class in CCR, it'd be easy enough to slow down a little and muck up the C-Bracket a bit. Shenanigans... Hmmm....

Terrible Duckles.
Eric, I gave a team "speech" the other night. A couple specific shout outs, but the end overall message was " Casino just keep killing it. Everyone else go faster. I need to slow down." lol

I'm glad I could redeem myself Sunday and help the team after my terrible driving on Saturday. Jumped 100 positions in PAX, yep, Sunday was way better for me. I just had a better mindset I guess. Being in the caravan up and having more competition in my class must have helped me psych up for the event. haha

Yes Duckles of course I give you that one. I liked where Matt was going with that! We may need to rent a campsite for the SOLO Cup "banquet" lol Derek, you may be really used to small sites. Or down on power I was so far back Saturday because the car had no power. It played in the teams favor though.
