As a novice, I was only told that I needed numbers on my windshield. In another thread, I learned that I really needed numbers on both sides of my car.
Does anybody have a good place to find these in a magnetic format?
I don't really want to tape them on my doors.

Quick & cheap: Lowes carries magnetic material in 8"x15" sheets, 3 sheets per pack and cut the numbers out. They are in the HVAC department and are sold as magnetic register covers. Remember, NUMBERS must be 8" tall, minimum, and have a stroke of 1-1/4", class LETTERS should be at least 4" tall, (not sure of stroke). For this you can print letters with your computer, most will print a 4" tall letter, and use clear packing tape to affix it to the magnet material, voila!, profeshunall looking numbers & letters...unless your car is white.

Hey cool... That was recommended to me last weekend so that's what I did yesterday -- hit Lowe's for some register covers. Worked fine! I just used a marker but computer would be much better. I'm newbie now, so hand-lettered and -cut letters was fine for today. That said, I do plan to autocross a lot more so at some point soon I'm sure I'll spring a few dollars on some mo' betta looking ones. I just found these online a few days ago, though I can't vouch for the company as I haven't bought from them yet. Be sure to click "all letter styles." Solid: www.izoomgraphics.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=3Outline: www.izoomgraphics.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=5Sharing a car, or don't have a reserved number? For quick changes, this looked pretty cool. [edit: Which is not to say you can't turn your regular 9 upside down or add a 1, but I kind of like how this looks like a solid panel...] www.izoomgraphics.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=7P.S. If you must tape anything to your doors I was told to use the blue painter's masking tape (from yes, Lowe's) to be sure it comes off cleanly, with no sticky left on car and no clear coat left on tape

IZoom Graphics are the folks that make and sell the Tire Tail. That's what John Freeman uses to haul his 710s for the MazdaSpeed MX-5. They are a reputable company. $28.60 for a set (2 numbers 3 letters for both sides) - www.izoomgraphics.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1Not too bad... I got a few feet of magnetic material from a sign shop for $10. Then I had one of the guys where my wife works print out the numbers and letters for me. I cut them out, then traced them onto the magnetic and cut it out. It did take a while to do and is a bit of a pain. Cassino and I have been co-driving this year. I run 6, he uses 9. We just flip the number. Works pretty well (but Mikey doesn't get his number of choice).

Ah yes, once again we digress from the serious inquiry made by our fellow autocrosser. shocking - ain't it... But, last year someone had a thin magnet material that they could run through their inkjet or laser printer and it did a nice job of making custom printed letters/numbers. Not sure who, where, what, but perhaps someone else on the forum remembers or knows of the stuff. Cheers! - brake parts arrived today! So I should be at Triad this weekend!

Good info - thanks Tweety. Yeah, as I remember that stuff is about as thin as paper so I am not sure how well it sticks anyways. The colored stuff from bumpdraft would be good. A few years ago, someone came out to events and sold the stuff from a trailer along with other goodies.

There's nothing at the sight that indicates they are closing. Let's be careful not to spread any rumors. www.bumpdraft.com/This is a good source for stuff.

Got my #s and class letters from a co. called solotime (solotime.com) in the early '90s and they still work great. Also glad to hear about magnet material from Lowes.
