Hey everyone,
I was talking with an older coworker of mine today that used to be into sports cars and participated in some club events. I'm not sure what club he was a member of but he said this was back in the 70s and 80s when he did it. Anyway he said they used to do multiple events and have scavenger hunt type things that would go on for an entire weekend and span a wide area.
He was telling me about one event he did that started in Charleston with an autox, then you made your way through checkpoints up to Chimneyrock. And you had to do a scavenger hunt along the way, finding specific markers and such. He pointed out finding a tombstone with someone's name, although I don't think we could do something like that specifically with todays society (might be frowned on lol), but we could still incorporate finding specific landmarks, or even something like a poster somewhere. And then at Chimneyrock there was a hill climb for the finale. He also mentioned some events where they did Relay type stuff with teams of drivers for long distance multi-state events.
All in all it sounds like lots of fun and I was thinking it might be something we could look into doing. With the clubs as they are now, it'd have to be a multi-club event to carry any kind of distance with it. SCR, CCR, Highlands, perhaps even Triad? And for multi state relays we could probably bring Georgia into it too, perhaps more.
I know it would take a lot of organization for something like this, and I'd volunteer to help out with it (although I'd like to participate too, but organizers probably wouldn't be able to participate in scavenger hunts since they'd know where everything is!). But I really think it would make a nice once or twice a year weekend long event.
I posted this over on the SCR forums as well, but also posting it here to see what everyone in both clubs thinks.
