I know, I know, tire opinions are like ***holes, everyone's got one. Anyways, I'm going to ask it here instead of miata.net because I know I'll get some good opinions. Basically this past weekend cooked the inside shoulders of my Kumho MXes, which I have been very pleased with and got nearly 20k miles out of (only 3 auto-xes plus lots of commuting). That negative camber'll kill ya. Anyways, I'm going to be getting a dedicated set of wheels so that I can switch between weekday commuters and weekend 'fun' that will consist of auto-xes and some trips to the mountains of TN and WNC, etc, so I do not want to get R-compounds. I should probably mention I'm planning on running tire class next year when my Novice designation runs out. As far as my price, I've got it narrowed down to either getting another set of MXes, or maybe the new Azeni-615s. Price is within $20 a tire. If my understanding is correct, the Azenis will outperform, but the MXes will outlast, correct?
Discuss.

No real difference in price if you order on-line. Haven't checked locally.
At Edge Racing, Azenis in 205/50R15 are $78. Hankook Ventus Rs2 Z212 are $75. They don't carry Kumho.
At Tire Rack, Kumho MX's are $74.
No difference in shipping really..
Edge Racing (to 28173 - Waxhaw) Ground $35.6 Second Day $96.72 Next Day $175.84
Tire Rack from Midway, Georgia $38.98
I've only tired Azenis. Mine were used (got them from Baggie) so I can't comment on full tread life. These have been on since January and have about 10,000 street miles and 14 events on them, since I've had them. Jason said he had put about 5,000 miles and 5 or so events on them.
Don't know if that helps...

Hmm. well, if it means anything ... The tire class champ for 04/05 used Falken Azenis 215s on an old 1978 Saab 99. Supposedly the 615s are better wearing and a bit more responsive/grippy.
Others may have some advice on the latest and greatest, but the Azenis have been a proven performer.
LM....that um...Logo is really disgusting.....I think I can see the steam still coming from it...ughh

Discount Tire gave me a price on MXs that was less than Tire Rack, plus I didn't have to scamble to find a mounter (Cheaper Too!).
I have a lot of neg camber and run low pressures on the road. No sign of edge wear at 7,000 miles, and I don't think I'll get any abnormal wear. On the Z3, I'm running 27 pounds all around with no issue at all. The MX can be run with low pressures, but I would go below where I am.

FWIW, I loved my Hankook RS-2 Z212. Great rain tire (I haven't heard great things in the rain for MX's or Azenis). Great at full tread, or shaved, and I've been nothing but thrilled with them. They love the cold. I can't say enough great things about them. They were my autox only tires and have served me for ~30 events (some with codrivers).

Well crud, thanks for the input everyone, but now Tara has thrown a new wrench in. I'm down to either the Flik Bullet wheels from Edgeracing or the Kazera KZ-Ms from Tire Rack that lagunamiata has. Price is 'basically' the same for either wheel. If I go to Tire Rack then I go with the MXes, but now I don't know if I want to try the Azenis or the Hankooks from Edge.......
I will agree with you on the 'MXes are a wee bit scary in the rain' though, especially now that my inside edges are all basically slicks........
Anyone who's had personal experience with more than one of these three tires?

I will agree with you on the 'MXes are a wee bit scary in the rain' though, especially now that my inside edges are all basically slicks........ Anyone who's had personal experience with more than one of these three tires? I've driven on all of them on different setup cars. MX's shaved and I really didn't like the squishy sidewall. On the other hand, I didn't like how the azenis side was was REALLY stiff (provides crisper turn in and response). I liked the hankook because it was a mix of the above. The azenis overheat and get "greasy" after a few runs providing a loss of traction (especially in the summer) so you have to get a water sprayer and tend to them during runs. The hankooks only experience this really in 85+ degree whether with a codriver (you still need to properly bleed them, etc). MX's need a lot of heat to work well, which mean's it's a really good tire for a multiple driver car. I like the hankooks (even unshaved) because they not only are a good tire in full tread in the pouring rain but also function in the dry just as well. I will warn you in the beginning the hankooks have a bit of a squishy tread block due to the voids in the tread of the tire which can sometimes be frustrating. Once you get use to this tread squirm the tire performs wonderfully to your commands. It also mimics the tread of the Yokohama Neova (about 2.5 times the price of the hankook), with a slightly different compound. There's not many bad things I can say about the tire. I think it's the "best bang for your buck" street tire on a tight budget. PS- I just ordered 4 hankooks this morning (225-45-16) shipped to my door (free shipping on ground) for $396.00

I've heard that the RT-615s dont' have the overheating problems of the RT-215s. I'll find out soon as I have a set of RT-215s at home to be mounted (thanks Shane). We (me and Mikey) didn't see any problems with the 615s getting greasy after 8 runs.

I forgot there were two azenis now lol i've driven on the older not the newer.
