Several years ago, we started the SECOND GEAR PROGRAM. Drivers donate old suits, gloves, socks, shoes, nomex underwear, balaclavas, arm restraints and gear bags to SECOND GEAR. We maintain this gear and loan it to SEDIV novice drivers free of charge for SCCA events. This allows many drivers the chance to get started while spending their money on the car and fees. Over the last three years, we have helped about 26 drivers! Many drivers have used this gear to get started through the Novice Program at the Dragon Hillclimb and at our Time Trial School at Little Talledega in Munford, AL. We currently have about 13 suits in sizes from XXL to XS. While 13 suits sounds like a lot, we regularly get multiple requests for one size. We are especially in need of socks, gloves, balaclavas and arm restraints. Tom Burke is a former SCCA racer from Syracuse, NY area. He had quite a driving career with Formula Vees and an F Prod Capri racing at Watkins Glen and Daytona. He moved to Florida and then to Greenville. Now, he is in his 70's, he decided not to race anymore and donated a practically new full set of gear and bag to the S ECOND GEAR program. We greatly appreciate the spirit of competition that is helping others to begin. Thanks to Tom, Tony Wentworth, Brian Gause and many other drivers for being a part of this program! This is a great way to give back to the sport that has given you so much fun and excitement... and to help someone else begin their journey down the same path. THANKS!
