This year the SCCA is letting the FSAE guys run in there own class at the nationals. The 2006 rule book I have had them lumped in with Amod. The pax is listed as .948. My question is can I run one in our local events if I had that kind of money, in our tire class against the pax for FSAE rather than the Pax for A-mod?
The class history is one of a proving ground for would be engineers from colleges, and participation in the class required you to be in college and it also had some other requirements geared towrds teaching and learning. The cars that they build are only able to run for two years, so there must be some floating around for sale somewhere, maybe minus a few parts that they swap over. Can we use them for Auto-x fun?

... so there must be some floating around for sale somewhere, maybe minus a few parts that they swap over. ... I have some friends that have been members of the FSAE teams during their college tenures. From what they've told me, the cars often get heavily cannibalized because most of the FSAE teams are running on a financial shoestring. I hope you can find one that isn't a complete basket case, but I think you'll need some luck.

Why couldn't i run in the tire class The cars are required to have rain tires, as well as slicks, which are more or less the same tires I'm running on the beetle. I had asked before what classes were elliglble for tire class and got a reply of anything from A-mod to HS. But I suppose it wouldn't be as much fun as slicks. I just heard back from the Clemson team, lawyers and liability issues means no sale. Cars are pirated for parts, shows, and testing. It would have to be a ground up build. Oh well. Looked like fun. greg

You've obviously never seen a prepped FSAE run before. No way on street tires.

No way, Greg. Not even close. Your tires are nowhere near being "race" tires.
A formula SAE on street tires would be like watching an Air Hockey Puck sliding around, only at the speeds a properly built FSAE could achieve, you wouldn't even want to be at the same event.

Yep - check out a FSAE up close and you will see they are a real race car that definitely belongs on true race tires. These are small, very fast, and use a small diameter racing tire. Also, I am not sure that a privately owned FSAE would even be legal considering it is intended for Colleges to compete against each other.
Check out UNCC's -- it has consistently been one of the best. You don't see it around during the summer months - but it usually shows up in the fall/spring events.
But - technically tire class could be anything, but some consideration needs to be given to the type of car

Oh well. It was only hypothetical anyway. I suppose it would have been an unholy handfull on Dot tires. I'll just go for FSP in the Beetle next year. So get ready for the questions on that one!
Hey JB, did you get the message I sent? If found the info on the 24hr format buried in a thread. Can't wait for this one. Greg
Maybe someday I'll save up and get a F500 for F-mod.

Yes, and thanks, Greg....I got it.
We will talk more about the politics later, but no, that was not me on P1.
Interested in the Spartanburg thing also.
