Price lowered to $3,500
Selling my partial daily driver, partial autox 1990 Mazda Miata. 223k miles, AC, PS, manual windows/locks, the radio works but only one speaker is really reliable. Original seats with the drivers side foam cut. The seat is still very comfortable and allows me to pass the broomstick test at 6'3". The interior is in pretty good shape, but the steering wheel is a little rough on the top. Still very strong, it just doesn't look great. A few cracks in the plastic and shifter boot, but otherwise it's pretty nice. Overall, the car looks good for it's mileage and gets a solid 25-28 mpg. It has a few dings or scratches, but nothing out of the ordinary for 223k miles.
I bought it bone stock at 203k miles from an older guy who had bought it new in 1990 as a retirement present for his wife. They drove it since then on mostly sunny days. It even still had the original shocks on it. Luckily for me they had just replaced the top with a glass window version. From there I modified it for local STS competition and daily drove it. Mod list is below
Koni Race front/Sport rear shocks
GC coilovers with 700F 450R Eibach springs
NB front top hats
ISC rear top hats with access hole cut into the trunk plate
Racing Beat big NB front bar with the stiffening mounts
No rear bar (still have the stock pieces)
VLSD Swap with 80k miles and urethane bushings (still have the OE open diff)
15x7.5 6UL's with worn 225/45/15 Hankook RS3's
Racing Beat aluminum intake
Custom made roll bar with harness bar
The good:
Solid 1.6 engine that dyno'd well on Rankins Dyno all stock except the intake (97whp)
I have all the stock parts sitting in my garage (stock wheels/intake/bars/diff/spare tire)
Good shape top with glass window
Tonneau cover included
Everything works (AC/PS)
Newer radiator and alternator
No crank wobble
Newish plugs/wires
Lightest Miata (once you removed the AC/PS/Radio)
Newish Hella headlights
The bad:
it leaks some oil from the CAS o-ring (it's burned or lost a quart every 2,500 miles while in my care, so nothing major)
it has a minor coolant leak from the back of the head that showed up after the new radiator (I check the coolant and top it off when it's low)
The drivers side door looks like it was resprayed or replaced at one point as the clear is pealing
The rear bumper has some paint cracks and scratches
Minor cone scuffs
The front ball joints occasionally pop during low speed turns (backing out of a parking space) but I have all new bits waiting to go on.
I've changed the oil every 5k miles with Shell Rotella T6 5w-40, and kept up to date on all other maintenance. It's always been reliable and I've done multiple 3-4 hour trips around the SE in it.
When I bought the car I bought a lot of spare seals/gaskets with plans of refreshing everything, but after realizing it was running good I put them on a shelf in the garage. There's new rotors with hawk brake pads, front and rear main seals, a bunch of other seals and all the stuff to do the timing belt just sitting there. Basically, I have all the stuff to make it stop leaking and ready for another 100k.
I've never tuned the car or changed the timing. It does run a little rich and will soot up the rear bumper after a while. While it was on the dyno it showed it was dipping down into the high 10:1 range at redline, so it should make more power if you actually tuned it.
Now with my "real" autox car running and me being on a lechump team I find myself with a decently prepped Miata but no use other than a 5 mile drive to work. I feel I'm wasting the car, and the Subaru has a few more expensive parts needed in the near future.
Price is $3,500 for everything.
