Next year I want to move to FSP and stay in the tire class. I can't seem to find wide 13"tires that are sticky like the Hankooks or the Falkens. I can get a 245/45/16, change the ring and pinion, and end up with almost the same overall ratio I have now. But they will weigh about 6 lbs a wheel more, unless I can find some aluminum rims. Having to stay with the drums all around is bad enough, but going faster and having more rotating weight?
So, is it better to run skinnier 13" tires, or go for the larger ones with the 8.7" tread width? My tires now are 6.9" tread width, 15".

Unfortunately, there aren't really any good 13" street tires, and only one good 14" tire (the 195 Falken). There's a 215/50R13 Sumitomo, but it's just one step above an all season tire.
The 205/50/15 Falken or 225/45/15 Hankook (they're roughly the same actual size) are probably your best bet for street tires. That 16" you mentioned is pretty big, but with as light as your car is, and how much down it is on power to other FSP cars, going to that big and heavy a tire is probably not worth the grip you'd gain.
Any reason you wouldn't run in the FSP open class? The 13" tire choice is much better in R-compounds.

Zimmer's Rabbit is probably why... Even if it's not being run in PRO (by someone other than Geoff) it's very fast... I guess 20 years of development will do that!
I've thought about going to CSP-T for next year, can't afford R-comps...

You nailed it there, laguana! BUt the other, and really big reason was competition. The tire class has several regulars and FSP doesn't. I like to have people to compete against. I saw the new Hankook 225/45/15 and unless a 13" shows up, that's my real choice I guess. Plus I can get a set of Flik 12 pound wheels in 15". That would be a nice combo. Greg

Sounds like you'll have a fast bug.....Should be a blast with 225/45-15 Hankooks on it. I have used the same size Hoosier on my Camaro and it made a huge difference!

Should be loads of fun!, I wonder if It'll still carry a tire with a rear sway bar on there? Doubt it. I may ahve to use the 225/50/15 over the 225/45/15. The 45 series needs a 7" rim and the flik wheels only go to 6.5" If the guys at edge racing are okay with mounting the 45 on the 6.5 wheel, I'll do it, but the Hankook page wants a 7" minimum. The two are the same weight and width, but the 50 is about 3/4 inch taller. I'll post this winter as the build goes on......
