Here is my video from the first PCA Autocross of 2014 at zMax.
This a PCA Sean course, you may notice that it is much easier, and less tricky than the courses I design. The PCA events are very good for newer drivers to get acclimated to a faster zMax course.

As a first-timer looking to get into autocross, would one of these PCA events be a good jumping off point? Or should I try a SCCA event first?
Thanks, Albert

Honestly you can't go wrong with either group. The PCA generally has more simple courses that are easier to find your way around and also a mandatory course walk in the morning. I believe they also offer instruction to new drivers, and you will get a little more seat time. The only catch is that I believe registration is now closed for the next PCA event, so you'd have to wait until July.
This region of the SCCA is fantastic with novice drivers. There is a group dedicated solely to the novice program. They go over the course map, do course walks, discuss worker safety, and basically tell you everything you need to know for your first time out. There are also instructors to ride along and teach you the sport. It's also a great overall group, and pretty much anyone in the paddock will help you if you need it or have questions.
So, you can't go wrong either way, and there are quite a few people here who run with both clubs. Just come on out and join the fun!

Everything Matt said but you may still be able to get in the PCA event if you email Sean and ask him soon. He usually shoots for 100 or so and right now they are at 85 registered. They have instructors there but you can probably get anyone in their "SCCA" class to instruct you as well. Dont wait around for the mandatory course walk, sometimes they dont do them at ZMax. Make sure you walk it a few times, find someone to walk it with so they can give you pointers too. And try to get a ride along with someone early in the day too.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll make my initial autocross attempt in August once my work schedule clears up!
I'll reach out to guys later to see if you'll be at the August events!

Why wait for the PCA, when CCR does great events. We are helping the SCCA run the Starting Line School and Autocross at Metrolina on July 26/27. With top tier instruction on Saturday and an autocross on Sunday, it is money well spent for someone new to the sport. Starting Line Thread

I think someone needs to take on site registration. Yeah really they are just hurting themselves, I don't think they've hit 100 entries at any of their zmax events this year. They must be losing some money on each autox.
