As many of us keep pushing on everyone, National events are a blast! The party atmosphere and fun factor at Dixie Champ Tour this weekend was at a high this weekend. The competition was great! CCR had a few first timers go, and they had fun! Most of them surprised themselves with their results. Your first National is a learning experience. Proud of those who stepped up and went. Matt Colley, Eric Hecht, and Frodo can tell you about their experience.
The Carolina's scored a lot of trophies this year as usual. 18 trophies from the 35 drivers represented the Carolina's.
Matt Colley was close to a trophy in A Street
Congrats to Jim Feinburg for yet other win in D Street driving the Audi TT
D Street Ladies saw Gwen Baake blowing away the field. Shelby Turbeville was co driving. She wasn't used to power steering, but she figured it out and brought back the second place trophy.
SSR had a few people from the area. Biggest note was Scott Hurley less than a tenth out of the final trophy position.
STC had bad circumstances but a great battle. Top 5 were separated by a mere 4/10ths of a second. The top spot going to David Stanford with AJ Snyder .06 behind him.
I'll give a shout out to John Brown winning STS
STU was VERY interesting. No surprise however that John Wolf ran away with the class win. Back in the field saw MinaIngrahm fighting hard for the last trophy spot, but day one was too much of a deficit. Wolf and ingrahm were one two on day two so kudos.
I'm sure he isnt pleased with it, but Greg Pressley is your winner in ASP
Mike Kuhn had a fantastic run going all weekend. He was your day one leader. The class came down to the final runs on day two, and Kuhn just didn't have enough. He brought back second place hardware.
Another class competition with a lot of controversy was ESP. With only one day of runs the top three were separated by half a second. Jadrice sat in second place with co driver Keath Marx in third. Jeff Cox from ETR took the top spot.
SM had a very interesting story. I will stick to those representing the Carolina's from SCR. Geoff Zimmer wanted to go have some fun. With no one in FSP to run against this year, he opted to give the rabbit some power and on more of a diet. Combined with his driving, he took the biggest underdog car of the class to the fifth and final trophy spot. Tim White had no idea what the car was going to do, but the new aero package looked wicked! Tim did a great job coming home with third place which is a win going against Godzilla.
SMF was one heck of an adventure as well. Another all civic battle, but engine choice and tires were all over the board. Jonathan Bennett had a setup issue on day one, but drove back to a third place trophy. No surprise that Jinx Jordan won the class. The big story line was of David O'Maley. He co drove the car with the least power in the class AND on BFG Rivals to an impressive second place finish.
SSM saw lots of spot swapping on day two. Chuck Pyanowski took the fourth and final trophy spot by the absolute slimmest of margins, .001.
KM was won by Daniel Wendell who was fighting for FTD of the weekend honors. He was 1/10th off after day one, but unfortunately didn't get the chance to see a run day two. He had a really good chance at making up that time.
Even with a disappointing end to the weekend, all these guys and gals represented us well. We will only get better and try even harder next year. There is a decent number of Carolinians going to the DC ProSOLO at the end of April. Good luck to those going! Bring us back some more hardware.
