I had to get my exhaust system repaired after hitting a curb. After things were put back together the main part of the exhaust, is for lack of a better description a performance "Y" pipe. I was in GS but I'm sure this is going to put me in another class but it it STX, SM, or something else?

Is the exhaust still stock from the engine through the catalytic converter? If so, discuss it with the tech inspector. You may still be in GS.
The rule book is on the SCCA national web-site, but can be a bit hard to decipher sometimes because of the cross-references from one part of the book to another.
Street (formerly Stock) rules: 13.10.C. "Any part of the exhaust system beyond (downstream from) the header/manifold or catalytic converter, if so equipped, may be substituted or removed provided the system exits the car in the original location and meets the requirements of Section 3.3.3.B.15, Section 3.5, and Appendix I where applicable... ."
The rule goes on to discuss what is considered a suitable cat converter and a few other points, but I don't think they apply to this case.
The referenced 3.B.15 is in the general section: Exhaust must exit behind the driver or exit to the side of the car. Sounds like you have that covered. Appendix I is on sound control. I assume you have that covered too.
If it was me, I would register for GS and have Tech take a look at it just for confirmation. It sounds legal, unless there is something far different from what I'm thinking from the description.

keep in mind …. it isn't up to tech to class cars … as often as not, the people manning tech either don't know the specifics of a particular car/class or don't have the time to try to figure it out

The cats have been gutted. I need the cheapest fix I could get since Donna and I are looking at buying a new home in the next few months. From what I've been told and can can best tell from the rules nothing with emissions can be tampered with for street, or STX. I've conferred with tech in my region and the say ESP. I entered the Z-Max event next week at STO just to cover having a class to run, which given the low number of events I've run so far and some sorely needed improvement behind the wheel, might be my best route.

take this for what it's worth … but I think you're right about the gutted cats … but, again take this for what it's worth, I think you can use high flow cats in street touring ( i.e. STX)

There has been many discussion on converters especially in those states that do not have emissions tampering laws. I'm unsure as to if they have amended that or not. I'll look something up for you Robbie.

cat-back is legal. gutting the cats is not. gonna be sp or higher. that being said, if you have friends in your class and want to run with them let them know the situation and im sure they would be ok with it
