Lately I don't know really what caused it, but I have an extreme urge to get into autox, it may be because my suspension is finally coming together. I plan to attend the October 7th event at Continental. I have a 1993 Honda Accord with the following: 16x7 wheels with 205/50/16 Nitto NeoGen rubber Neuspeed Race springs KYB AGX struts (soon to be Koni yellows) Energy suspension master front bushing kit Camber kits front and rear Intake Exhaust Carbon fiber hood Progress rear sway bar (getting very soon) As you can see I am lacking in the engine mods so far, I have been mostly working with suspension because I like to take my turns as fast as possible.
Now, I think I will have to run in the street prepared class because I am about to install rear disc brakes from a 93 Accord EX and a proportioning valve from an Acura Integra with rear disc brakes and no ABS. I think that is what throws me into the prepared class. I would use one from an Accord of the same vintage, but all those came with ABS, so no proportioning valve.

The lightweight hood puts you into street mod. If you leave that off, you'd be in STS (assuming you've still got the cat).
The brake swap moves you into F street prepared, and the proportioning valve swap is fine, since you are allowed to use any proportioning valve in street prepared.

Technically the hood keeps you out of Street Prepared. 15.2 BODYWORK Vehicles may only exceed the allowances of 13.2 as specified herein. A. Fenders and bumpers may be modified for tire clearance. This includes the portion of a hood which serves as a fender/wheel well, where applicable. This does not permit modifications to the chassis or bodywork inboard of the vertical plane of the hubwheel mounting face. Flares may be added although tires may extend beyond the bodywork. Replacement of complete hood, flared fenders, or quarter panels is prohibited.
The hood is legal in Street Mod. I don't see that it's legal in Prep.

Bah, forgot about the CF hood putting me in SM. Oh well, I really just want an excuse to thrash my car around a parking lot a few times.

Lately I don't know really what caused it, but I have an extreme urge to get into autox... Welcome to the Addiction!!! ;D Seriously, welcome to the sport and the club. Great to see anudda Honder. If that's the first event you plan to run in, try and make it out to a few as a spectator. Sign the waiver, and you can even do some ride-alongs!

But having some competition will pay off 100% more for improvement in driving than a trophy by default. Also true. I was discussing the other night while I was working with Vinny and John about how my car is seriously in the wrong class. The modifications per rule book put it in Street Mod, but as far as the car goes is in no way competitive with the other cars in Street Mod. My engine is still a stock Honda 4-cylinder with no VTEC. I think I could do and fit better in STS.

<snipped>I was discussing the other night while I was working with Vinny and John about how my car is seriously in the wrong class. The modifications per rule book put it in Street Mod, but as far as the car goes is in no way competitive with the other cars in Street Mod. My engine is still a stock Honda 4-cylinder with no VTEC. I think I could do and fit better in STS. On the one hand, I might look at your mods and say "I don't care if you're in STS". I do have even more STS mods than you, plus better tires for autocross (Falken Azenis Sports have 200 treadwear, Nitto Neo Gens are around 300, iirc). My car weighs 2500 lbs.; I'd assume an CB Accord is at least a couple? or three? hundred pounds more (though your hood would take off at least 50 lbs., possibly a bit more...) However, I don't know what shape other people in the class are in, or how they'd feel about it.
On the other hand, there's a part of me that says, "Rules are rules", and I'm sick of people trying to see what they can get away with. It's one of the major reasons this country is falling apart. Nevertheless, we -are- talking regional solo here Now you say your car "is in no way competitive with the other cars in Street Mod". Now I don't know who you've been running against so far, but I see the 3 SM cars that are registered for this Sunday. I must say I'm not familiar with the drivers or the cars, but I tend to think they might be in a similar boat to you -because- I haven't heard from them. I could be wrong if they're divisional champs who just moved from another part of the country, but the odds of that are -pretty- low. In fact, if they have some engine mod(s) that are the only thing that puts them in SM, -you- might be able to clean -their- clocks! Maybe it's their first event, and you even have more experience! I can say that in '03 and '04, SM was a much larger and competitive class, and you would've been creamed, but it seemed to peter out after that. You'd have to look at the numbers, but I wouldn't be surprised if even -I- outran SM most, if not all of the time in '06. In fact, the top 3 or 4 of STS likely did. If you went by PAX, probably -every- time, but I think I even "out-rawed" them some! No STS car in '03 or '04 could -dream- of that, what with Kent Davis, Todd Phillips, Jenny Redmon, and several other nearly as fast people tearing it up in SM...

Just saw in the latest FasTrack, that what were STX/Street Prepared brake mods, will be STS legal next year! So the only thing making your car SM would be the hood... Which I don't care about, if the rest of the class doesn't.
