From GH SHarp, through the Tarheel e-mail:
This past week we lost two members of the autocross/racing family here in the Carolinas. They were both known outside this area due to their activities with various clubs over the years, and I considered both of them friends, even though I hadn't been able to see either of them very often the last several years. I wanted to post this in case there are those who knew them and hadn't heard of their passing. Allen Roof, of Columbia, SC, a longtime (30+ years) member of both PCA and SCCA, passed away May 16 at the age of 58. He and his wife, Marcia, were very active in both clubs, and both had driven in the Chimney Rock Hillclimb several times during its heyday. He had a special fondness for 914's and original Mini's, and I believe he had occasionally dabbled with "antique" Porsche farm tractors. He will be missed by a lot of people. Mike Landreth, of High Point, NC, passed away May 22 at the age of 60 after a valiant battle with stomach cancer. He too was a long-time member of SCCA as well as of the local Triad Sports Car Club. He was an autocrosser who also drove several times in the Chimney Rock Hillclimb. Mike was the driving force behind the creation of the North Carolina Autocross Championship Series which began here in the mid-80's. He also leaves behind scores of friends in the racing community. Rest in peace, my friends. GH Sharp

Yes I remember Mike well. A great personality who loved the sport. A real big loss. I remember reading of Triad finding and restoring Mike's old race car last year and surprising him with it. A very nice gesture by that club for their former president.

Mike was a buddy of mine in Triad; he was a passionate racer and a nice person. I recall fondly CRX and him heating his tires with a propane torch before runs up Chimney Rock. I miss him. Rest in Peace
