I am looking for information on the Sparta Hillclimb...anyone know what happened? Why it stopped? Please EMAIL ME.... let's not put this on line as it might be sensitive to some.
Also, if you have any pics, stories, results or information on the couple times it was run, I would appreciate that for the hillclimbing book.
Thanks

Long story short on Sparta: Everyone in the town was a pleasure to work with and supported the racers. The road we used was just a little too short and not so challenging. Interest fell off each year and our major sponsor closed their doors. Wolf Ridge came along at about the same time and it made more sense for us to move there. The distance from the site to town was also a big factor. I think Sparta had some other roads they were looking at but you need someone to do the legwork. No bad blood at all, it was a great hillclimb.

A little too short and not too challenging.... sounds perfect for a early season tune up and a great place for novices to start. I have 5 people in SCR interested in hill climbing...some already have licenses. They are not as excited about Time Trial track events but they understand they have to go through that to get where they want to be. Besides...Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association has a very successful long running series of hillclimbs up there and NOT one of them is over 1 1/2 miles. I think CCR has enough hill climbs on the plate. Would there be interest to talking to Wiregrass or another region about hosting it with our help? I emailed with Director of Sparta Chamber of Commerce and he said they would be thrilled to have us back and felt the community would be very supportive again. That was big stuff for them... and he asked if there was any interest to please let him know. Yes, the dealer is gone but that doesn't mean it's dead. Events are bigger than single sponsors.... hopefully. There are also some independent sports car clubs that might be interested in hosting it with our help as well ... on their own insurance of course. Interest? Thoughts? Best to let this dog lie? I feel like I walked by those two wrecked Jag XKE's in the junkyard.. and I start thinking..."The components are all there to make a good one if ......" and then, thinking " Wow... it's a long way from December to June...." ;D

Hey Mark...sorry... I didn't clarify. I didn't mean this February...
It may be something for 2009.... but the wheels need to start rolling in 2008. That's all I meant.
I can't believe all that CCR is doing in TT and I think it's awesome. There is no desire to take away any energy and resources from any existing events. BUT if another club wanted to host one, I'm betting we could step up and help them.
Who knows...maybe we can get a series going!
I already told the PHA guys if we have a National Series.... George Bowland will be representing the South. ;D ;D ;D ;D
This is just an idea...nothing more. I was curious what thoughts were. Appreciate any input... not just encourgement to pursue.

Ted, I'm in full agreement with you...I was talking about how time sure flies, I guess it's that getting old thing, I thought I had plenty of time to get my car ready for 2008 and at the rate I'm progressing I might make Roebling this year. Fortunately after today I'm off until Jan 2 so I should get a chunk done, it's tough when all you have is a carport & a drop cord but, it's better since I got a slab of concrete to work on last year...gravel sucks

:)The idea of a SEDiv Hill Climb Series has been contemplated from time to time. With an increase to five (5) annual SCCA/other conducted events there is a chance of series sponsorship. This would require development of a series committee and staffing for each. All in all, the amount of effort would have to justified by about twice the entry level we now see.

it's tough when all you have is a carport & a drop cord but, it's better since I got a slab of concrete to work on last year...gravel sucks Man ...we all have our "When I was kid" stories about "walking to school in the snow up hill both ways" but My first 914 I had was when I was living in a home with a gravel driveway. I used 6 jack stands...because within an hour of bumping around and turning wrenches, two of the stands would be touching nothing. Gravel in your back hurts...especially when you are turning wrenches. My light source for working at night was a sun lamp with a 15 minute timer... if I didn't twist the switch back every 15 minutes, the light would go out, I would be in the dark and have to wait 10 minutes for the bulb to cool down so it could reset. When that happened, it was a splendid opportunity to practice a particular part of my vocabulary in the dark. One morning, a neighbor asked me if my mom had run off with an 18 wheel driver to Florida... because he said, "when I was trying to sleep, I kept hearing you out there in the dark mumbling about Mother, trucker and sunny beaches". I would go to work with red arms burnt from that sun lamp ... and the guys at work would say "Working on the car last night?" ;D Amazing what you can do when you have some passion for something...

Thanks, I stand corrected.... but I think the majority of them are shorter, although a good bit more challenging than Sparta. True Stan?
