Uhhh............to be totally honest, I don't know. It is a single diagonal that Jason Baggie ran in his 2nd gen Miata. It's the Solo I approved bar. I can take pics and send them, if it would help. Jason works at Montgomery Mazda in Charlotte. He could answer the questions more quickly than I could, I expect.

Hmm, I might be interested in a couple of weeks when I get some of that money back that I just blew on tires...only to be thrashed on at the 24hr ;D. A roll bar is my next planned upgrade.
Pics would certainly be helpful as well as what exact model it is. Is this located in Charlotte? How old is the bar? My email is pm68842@gmail.com if you have any pics. Thanks.

Don't have pics yet, but will by the weekend. I've got a digital camera, but I don't know how to keep from sending a HUGE file yet. My bro is to be in town and will help. The bar is actually near Hendersonville right now, but it travels easy. Don't know how old the bar is. I planned on putting it on my street Miata, but got a good deal on a hardtop before I installed it. If I can sell this, I'm going to buy the Miata cage listed below to take my street Miata a step closer to an ITA car.

If it's Jason's bar it's a Hard Dog Hard Core. 1.75" tubing, a good substantial bar. Bar isn't that old, I remember when he installed it. Heck, you can't hurt them unless you roll the car... then it just gets scratched. Pic from Tom's (owner of Hard Dog) site www.bethania-garage.com/m2_hardcore.htm

How is rearward visibility with the single diagonal? It looks like the diagonal clearly obstructs (what an oxymoronic phrase) the view out of the rearview mirror, but what do I know...

I haven't driven with a Hard Dog in a Miata, but it can't possibly obstruct vision more than the cage in the ITA/IT7 RX-7 we just sold. The bottom line is that, yes, the bar does run right through your rearward vision. But they're less than 2 inches in diameter, so they don't obstruct the stuff you care about. If a car is far enough behind you that they're completely obstructed by the bar, they're too far behind you to worry about. :-)

Thanks, Laguna. Actually, that's the same pic that Jason sent me before I bought it from him. After having just installed the hardtop on my Miata, I can't believe how much the little window in the soft top obstructs visibility! If you can and have lived with that, a 1.75" bar should be EASY!! To be totally honest, I never installed the bar in my car, so I couldn't give you a first-hand answer. Moving the little chromed Halon extinguisher that Jason put on the bar would definitely help, though. My double-diagonal bar doesn't obstruct too badly. Heck, its a Miata, you should have the top down most of the time anyway!!

I'm interested. Do you still have the bar? I'll send you a PM, I suppose.

Emailing him at scottf (at) nutdriver (dot) org would probably be more reliable.
