I'm looking for a trailer for the Elise, new or used. Prefer a small (6.5' to 7' x 14') tandem axle trailer with electric brakes. Anybody have some leads on one? I'm considering an aluminum one, but they want a small fortune for them. I found a nice 14' aluminum with a nose guard, winch, tire rack, and adjustable tie down system on it, but the dealer wants $6100 for it used!!! I have seen new ones for $4500 (without the extras though).
Thanks!

Check with Golden Gait Trailers - located in Harrisburg NC. I looked at a steel model and it was about 2900 with brakes - tandem axles. I work a LOT with metals. JIMHO - Although aluminum is light and looks nice forever, there are some disadvantages - the big one is it is expensive - and it is expensive if it gets bent/damaged to repair. Over time, many of them get stress cracks in the welds - not all manufacturers but many of the smaller ones. Just about any shop can weld or repair a steel trailer. Many are not equipped to work on aluminum. You can get a nice trailer rated at 7000#, in steel and still pull it and your car (Elise) with any pickup. Although I can weld and work with aluminum, I deliberately chose a steel trailer for durability and affordability. Here is one that is available used at GGT: inventory.goldengait.com/inventory.cgi?cmd=details&recid=124*1941A#topThey also have a new "Tag-Along" series 18' car trailer for 2700. Call Golden Gait Trailers toll free by dialing: 1-800-895-3276 Or from the Charlotte, NC area by dialing: 704-455-5382 (University Store) Hope this helps!

you might call Woody Lochman 1315 Highway 73 Lincolnton, NC 28092 (704) 735-0097
tell him what you need and he can probably get it for you. I looked around a good bit before buying mine and he's easy to deal with and his prices are very competitive

T&W trailers in Hudson (near Hickory) can build you one to suit. Haven't dealt with them myself, but have heard only good things from many that have. (828) 726-0161

I was thinking about a small open trailer so I could store it in the garage with the car on it, but I'm second guessing that now. If I wanted to drive the car I would have to open the door, put the ramps on, back the car out, pick up the ramps, and then close the door. Doesn't make it nearly as convenient to take the car for a spin whenever I want. It would also take up a lot of room in my small (20'x20') garage. If I'm going to store it, there is no price difference in storing a covered versus open trailer. I have a phone call into Auto Europe regarding this trailer. auto-europe-sales.ebizautos.com/detail-2006-trailer-small_vehicle-birmingham-1183644.htmlThey have a used one that might be available (currently has a deposit on it that might fall through). A couple of Elise owners have this trailer and love it. Not quite as functional as a traditional enclosed, but it pulls so much easier. I tried Golden Gait, but was turned off by the sales guy we got. We were talking to him regarding a used trailer he had and they were completely unwilling to deal. I also was trying to get some pricing from him on some other options and he was very vague and not very helpful. I try the other couple of companies and see what they have or can build.

Check Ebay for some inexpensive (and possibly CHEAP) enclosed trailers. I kept running into manufacturers (that I'd never heard of) in Georgia. Also, their is a nice enclosed trailer in the ImprovedTouring.com site. I think it's in Ohio and asking $4k. One caveat to remember. Keeping your race stuff (car, spares, tools, etc.) in your trailer round-the-clock is just gift wrapping it for thieves. Check other forums. It's more common than I thought.

I have set up an Ebay search that will notify me if any car trailers are listed for sale over the next three months. I will keep an eye on Ebay as well as a few different forums and other sites and see what I can turn up. I'm waiting on pictures of a used open trailer in the NC area, but I've been told it will need paint and I don't think it has a tire rack or nose guard so I would need to find a welder if I go that route. I can do the cutting and fitting, but I don't know how to weld (as much as I would love to learn).

I am in New Bern, NC and may have to upgrade to an enclosed trailer. IF that happens, I will have to sell my new in March 18" aluminum ATC trailer. Built by Amish its just the best. My preference is to keep it, but if I have to go to the enclosed, it will have to be sold. $5k. TXPD@aol.com

Man - I love the wheels on that trailer....they would look great on the Fiesta! Glad to see you use TOYO tires on that car (check out JB's Wimmen of the day thread for further details).
