all right some logistic facts. 160 entries. needs to work a total of 2 hours every 12. 12hours divided by 2 hours gives us 6 run groups, 160 divided buy 6 run groups is 20 workers out of 160, so a possible 140 drivers (IE not cars,as multiple drivers use the same car. lets say we have 20/2 drivers in the same car running in grid at one time. that reduces the cars on grid by 20 gives us a possible 120 cars. 120 cars divided by 4 grid lines gives us 30 cars by line. if you pull the complete line blocked off ( so no one sneaks into this line thats moving) IE having a vacant line to pull the competitors back into line would make this work better. as I see it this would require a total of six grid lines, one vacant for both single and multiple drivers to come back to grid after running. time to run a line 30 cars times 20 seconds between launches at max is 10 minutes a line. in a hour we should be able to get 2.5 runs per hour out. 2.5 runs times 20 constant hours of running should net the average driver. 50 plus runs. hope you guys see, the logistics. ;D thanks Rob PS been a Operation Stewart at Nationals a Few years, they get you to think like this. Dont forget thats a worst case scenario. There will likely only be 100 or so entrants at the event during any given time, total runs wont change but you would actually get through quicker during your time in grid.!! PS. Rob, I like the way you think !

what I was trying to say is the grid would have 120 cars divided by 4 lanes of 30 cars each, 6 lanes total 5 for single drivers and 4 full one empty. 2 for multiple one full, one empty. thanks Rob
thanks Rob

The least amount of runs (since we've been able to record total number) has been 3000; which was last year. In 2004 we had over 4000 runs. Divide that up by the number of entrants. JByrd, Are you really bashing an event format that you have never attended?? (If I read your posts correctly.) While your concerns are understandable, the reality is that this club has been running this specific event for many years now and is considered to be one of the most coveted in the series. It's akin to bashing a ProSolo for the drag-race tree type start without having experienced it firsthand. As Jon K mentioned, this event is not only a cause of jealousy for most other regions but to my knowledge no other region in the country does this. At all. Therefore not only do we hold a unique event, most other regions wish that they could do this. The event can and does work as it's been proven in the past. 2003 had lines for both day and night but I never heard of anyone complaining about lack of runs. Given my observations I still believe it is critical to design a course without major mishaps and to send cars off quickly in order to minimize wait times and maximize runs. As for being outside of the SCCA rulebooks, Jon K has already explained this perfectly. Rob has also laid out the hard numbers for the logistics who obviously has both the credentials and experience to back it up. If you have any other questions or concerns that you think I can address before or during the event you are welcome to my phone number; just send me a message. -Biggly

Well we just finished the 24, my first 24, I only ran the last 12 hours, worked grid from 12:00am to 2:00am, and only got to run from 2:ooam to 7:00am (Starter problem) so in 5 hours, I got in about 25 runs, and only 4 Official runs, was planning on about 10-15 more, everything seemed to flow pretty d**n good to me !! Can't wait for the next 24 !!! Maybe we outta have 2 or 3 during the year, or maybe a couple of "12" hour autox, 6:00am to 6:00pm, or maybe midnight to noon, in the same format as the 24, thats almost as long as we are at a regular autox and ya could get a bunch more runs,.... I hadda BLAST!! ;D ;D ;D

It was my first 24 hour event and I had a great time. I only signed up for noon to midnight and did NOT want to pack up and go home when midnight rolled around! I wanted to stay for the rest but already had plans. I can't wait for the next 24 hour event and I'll definitely be staying for the entire thing. Sure there were a few hiccups but overall I got plenty of runs in and couldn't have hoped for much more. Nice work everyone!

First of all, I'm really sorry I couldn't come. I thought I may have had an opportunity with my sister and then when that fell through, I decided on a get together with Mom.
Now you drive for twenty four hours?
When do you sleep?

Now you drive for twenty four hours? When do you sleep? GiGi - Ya don't sleep...you try to get in as many runs as you can! So - you stop when you run outa tires, gas, patience, consciousness, etc. or noon of second day - whichever comes first!
