Awesome Chris!
Very low registration so far. I expected this to fill up in a matter of hours or days. This event is for the Regional racer to get a taste of how a National event feels.

Awesome Chris! Very low registration so far. I expected this to fill up in a matter of hours or days. This event is for the Regional racer to get a taste of how a National event feels. 40 registered as of this morning. I registered in the first few hours.. I am a LONG way from being a national level driver, and i fully expect to finish in the lower half of the standings. BUT this is a chance to compete in an INAUGURAL national level event, and it's right in my back yard. And another point to make: IMO - As a region, we need to make sure this event is successful. Eyes are upon us! A Kick-a$$ Shootout means a shot at other national events (like maybe a tour stop?). I know pre-paying $85 this far out from the event may be a hinderence, but please consider committing to run the Shootout sooner than later!

Okay... someone explain to me how the classing works.
If I want to run the MINI on street tires... what do I do? I see there's a "Road tire FWD" class with a DS index, but... how will that work? Is the PAX going to be adjusted for the road tire classes, or am I just losing out on being able to really compete because I'm not packing hoo-hoos and thus no better off than registering in open DS class? I can't find any info in the March SOLO rulebook about RT* classes or any published PAX on them, so I assume in an event like this that's based solely on overall pax and not classes... I'm just sort of screwed?
Or should I just take Tim White up on his offer to drive his Miata in STS for the event?

The Road-Tire Classes are a Paxed class . Everyone must run Street Tires and then all the FWD cars are Paxed together . Everything should be pretty equal since all the classes are paxed on R-comp times and actually I would think the low powered stock classes have a slight advantage since they dont have as much horsepower to spin the tires as easily .

But what's the PAX for a DS-RTF car? In Open DS it's 0.821... but I can't find anything about where I'd stand with the RTF. I was under the impression that competition inside a class doesn't mean squat here, and it's all overall PAX... right?

Well, in the immortal words of Bill O'Reilly..... "We'll do it live! WE'LL DO IT LIVE!! F#&* IT! DO IT LIVE!!" Registered as RTF-DS... I guess I'll figure it out when I get there, right?

It is class competition on Saturday . Class winners will get trophies and Contingency . Pax will count toward entry into Sundays Shootout . Hadnt thought about how the Road Tire classes would work in that scheme . Will have to discuss that . There are 16 Random draw entries , might have to dedicate a couple of them but until Nationals does some individual Tire Paxs we have nothing to go on .

^Is Mazda, Hoosier, and the other normal Contingencies going to be taking part in this as well?

Post by drum3 on Mar 14, 2012 5:23:04 GMT -5
No , it wont be the regular contingencies , Mazda has pulled most of their contingencies due to their financial problems . Hoosier and all of the other tire companies will be involved but they are waiting to see how registration and interest go for the event ,,,, slow registration means less involvement from these companies . Those that have contingencies in place are listed on the website . Several others are still in discussion . Each class winner should walk away with a minimum of $50-100 in cash and/or prizes . The more we get registered the more sponsors we can sign up . PLUS the Shootout itself pays the top 20 $75-1000 plus as much as another $1500 in gift certificates and contingencies .

Just checked the website and didn't see any info regarding contingencies. I'm assuming we have to have various stickers on the cars for the contingencies. Any idea when the info will be posted?

As mentioned above , each of our listed Partners are in , but they and about a dozen others are waiting to see if their is demand for this event and their products . The economy is very tight and this is a new unproven format . Their amount of involvement is unfortunately tied directly to the speed and amount of registered participants . The more registered participants the more they invest , unfortunately right now the biggest deal is the payout for the top 20 in the Shootout . We have several cases of Joe Gibbs Racing Oil to give away in random draws , Racer Parts Wholesale is sending about $2000 in product to give away , Bimmerworld is planning on payouts for non-stock class BMWs of $200-1st , $100-2nd , $50-3rd . The rest are waiting to see what numbers we get .

Chris - I believe I saw sticker requirements in the rules. I also asked previously if those stickers would be available on-site, and as I recall, the answer was: 'Yes, or they won't be required".

Bimmerworld sells AFTERMARKET stuff , you cant use it on your stock class car anyway They sell brake pads, fluids, shocks, swaybars, and catback exhausts, right? I mean... if you want to get into this "what should be allowed in Stock" discussion again, I'm down for it... but... pretty sure those are still legal there Just sayin' ;D

just sayin' The man who owns Bimmerworld said he only wanted to cater to the modified BMW contingent because that was 98% of his business . I'm sure if a couple of BMW guys from the stock class ranks contacted him and expressed their thanks for his involvement and asked if he could include the Stock classes , he just might understand that the Stock class owners will eventually be modified BMW owners . Same applies for Mazda and HPD . Mazda wont be in this year but with enough emails they might be for next year . HPD said point blank they wanted to wait and see how things went before dedicating any funds . Same for Chevy and Ford , they want to see the interest before committing . Its tough for us to say the interest is there when we havent had a single event and all these potential sponsors look to the registration list and see a very low turn out so far . We are paying an awesome payout to the Top 20 , through 25th gets some cash back , anyone could qualify for the Shootout through the random draw , we have about $5000 worth of random giveaways that ANYone could take home plus another $2000+ to be divided between the class winners as it stands now . Contact the companies you want in and REGISTER , without your help we are just spinning our wheels .

I emailed MINI to see if they have anything for us... cash or otherwise. I know there are a few of us MINI drivers there..... me, Mini Feeney, Brotbeck, Chad & Leroy, Gwen & Jim & whomever else is co-driving that car, etc. If I hear anything back, I'll let you know.

We are less than a month away and registration is still very low . If we cant fill this event then it will be difficult to ever get another National event in this area and you will most likely have to settle for Atlanta and DC . This is not only the most Novice friendly event going but it will have a total pay out nearly double that of a National tour . You draw nearly 200 for a single day event , where are all these competitors . We lost 2 MAJOR sponsors this week because the registration suggests there is no demand for this event so they passed on this year .
