I am new to the area and have attended some of the solo autox events with you guys and have had a great time. I have always been interested in doing a hill climb or time attack, but I am confused at where to start. I have a 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 and was wondering what all I need for the car to make it legal for these events. Do I need a roll bar? Harness? etc. I would love to compete in one of the dragon races so any helpfull information would be appreciated!
Thanks, Clay

Thankyou for the info. I just need to look into getting a custom roll bar made, as I do not think there is a blot in option for the speed 3 at the moment.

Welcome Clay
While there may not be bolt in options available for the Speed 3 you can still go that route. Many cars I have built have a plate welded in with threaded fasteners. This allows you the fit of a custom bar with the option to pull it between races. I am swamped but others on this forum do cage work or we can recommend a shop. Specs as follows for a roll bar.
2012 Time Trials Rules – Level 4 – Hillclimbs Page 39 of 45 chromium alloys present difficulties in welding and must be normalized to relieve stress. Proof of the use of alloy steel will be the responsibility of the entrant. Note: ERW tubing is not permitted in any GCR class car registered with SCCA after 1/1/2003. B. For purposes of determining tubing sizes, the vehicle weight is as raced without fuel and driver. The minus tolerance for wall thickness should not be less than .010” below the nominal thickness. Improved Touring roll cage tubing size is to be calculated based on the published vehicle weight minus 180 lbs. C. Minimum tubing sizes (all Solo class vehicles) for all required roll bar elements (All dimensions in inches): Over 1500 lbs. 1.50 x .120 or 1.75 x .095 Over 1000 lbs. 1.25 x .090 Under 1000 lbs. 1.00 x .060 Dimensions are nominal. 0.005” variation in wall thickness is allowed.
Let us know if you need some help to get started.

I don't know what they cost but you can get scanner guns that emit a laser beam which gives you a readout of the metal's content by percentage.
