This year trophies were very nice. The plaques were well made but I bet they were probably expensive. The other thing is they are at home when I race, so no one can see how good I did last event. I was at a autox this weekend at myrtle beach and the cape fear region has these little cone magnets that say first place etc. I would like to see our club do something like this. I think they would be more cost effective as well. What are other people's thoughts?

Well I can get the numbers from aj and check real numbers. But with all the companies on the Internet I'm sure we can get magnets crazy cheap. I looked online and comparable plaque was atleast 5.00 and that was the cheapest I could find. Felt like we could get a high qualitie magnet for max 2.00 per. And then think. We don't have to load all those throphy Tubs anymore.

I like the pkaques better than the magnets/ stickers. I tell my daughter that its for her everytime I come home. Another cool idea is actual mini rubber cones with 1st 2nd... on them.

The plaques make great sponsor gifts as well.. Actual trophies also are really impressive when we're on display at shows like Cars and Coffee and Auto Fair. --- One idea I saw at Central NY region: They gave you a large blank plaque with the Club Logo on top. At each event, everybody got an etched "dash plaque" (like Triad does) for that event that you could stick onto your large plaque. If you "trophied" - You got an additional tag to stick on indicating your trophy.
-This works well for regulars. At the end of the year, you have a souveigner of the whole season. -But it does not work so well for visitors.
Perhaps a choice?

I like that Idea. thscc gives pkaques with a blank space then make specific magnats for that event with the event theme and place.

Where are these plaques that you guys are talking about? Just when I finally got good enough to win an event or two, there were no more plaques being passed out. In all seriousness, I race for fun, pride, and bragging rights more than trophies, so I'm cool with whatever the club wants to do. I like all the ideas mentioned and would be happy to receive any of those awards. Like Adam's daughter, my boys were excited to see the NCAC magnet I brought home and I don't imagine it was too expensive.

I didn't even know we got trophies.. I don't think I've ever picked one up for a local event.

just my opinion but magnets get not so cool after you get 3-4 of them . I've never put even one on the car , they just end up laying in the tool box . Glasses , T-shirts and the rubber cones have been my favorites .

Tire Gages will be the self-induced adversity award... I like Anthony's idea - little rubber cones with a sticker for trophy position. That'd be cool

Rich. Trophies are done after everything is cleaned up. Thus why Kuhn never gets one

IMO, Trophies are important to the SOLO program. Maybe not so much for the people that have been around for awhile, but for newcomers and visitors from other regions..
How often have we seen someone new show up, they run and LOVE it.. They trophy, go back and talk to their friends-show off the trophy, and at the next event, one of their friends comes with them. The Trophy is icing on the cake..
Let's look for a good compromise of unique, flash and cost.

We should set aside the most beat up and raggedy cones we have and cut them into pieces and use them as trophy's. Write on the inside of them with a sharpie the event date, name, class and position.
I shall call this new fangled idea 'recycling.'

We used to save the worst cones for the "cone killer" award.

Reminds you of what you accomplished regardless of how small the accomplishment was. Hopefully class champions get a massive one

SCR went to the stickers a while back, partly to save cost. They said that the participants were polled and responded that they would be happy with stickers. End of year trophies are plaques like we've done the past 2 years.
I'm with Eric, I've always though that it's important, especially for folks in their first few years of the sport, to have hardware to take home. I've not taken a trophy in many years, enough junk on the shelves to dust, unless it was something different.
If anyone wants cost info let me know... I pretty much know how much all the various trophies that have been given out over the past 8 years cost.

O.K. , i am still not in the best of moods to post on this topic , but here goes: i have been around a while, and scored a few trophys. Some were ho-hum. But some meant a great deal to me. Not in size or style, but in memories. Holding off a close competitor, Beating someone the first time. Any of a number of reasons. But the thing i liked best was everyone hanging out for the presentation. Then groups (or class competitors) going for dinner as a group. i still remember my first. i remember some along the way., but most of all i remember the friendships and competition. It saddens me to see so many just pack up and leave at the end of the event. When i won i tried to humbly accept, when i lost i wanted to shake the hand of my fellow competitor, and clap for him. i have seen people say ,sorry , i'm in the 4th group but i need to leave early, there is a problem. Then they were allowed to run first group. Understood. But an empty parking lot for presentations? Shape , style , color, makes no difference to me, Just make them presentable at a car show or on a wall. They are a recruiting tool for new members, and a binder to us OLD FOLKS.
