Just ordered them from tirerack and they say they are shipping on Feb 1st out of GA.
I am pretty sure supplies will be limited, so if you want them without needing to spend countless dollars shipping them from Japan.

Actually it ends up being cheaper. The tires are only 128 each. Then shipping here is 35 per tire.

They made a ton of 255/40/17's which is the size for STX/STR so that size should not be running out anytime soon..

Unfortunately, 245/40-18s won't be around until March 8th, even though some of us preordered them months ago...

If they made a ton and need 2 tons worth of orders, you will be short, and waiting for the next batch. The backorder list is growing and growing quickly. T, how did you get such a good rate on shipping, do you know military or something?

I was just restating what Chris Harvey from TireRack said about the 255's...

some one did point out to you, didn't they, that if they aren't USDM then they aren't legal to use in this country ?

some one did point out to you, didn't they, that if they aren't USDM then they aren't legal to use in this country ? Correct , if you did not specifically order USDM Tires , they will be a different compound , they will not have the USDOT on the tire and will technically be illegal for SCCA competition as they will have the 100 tread wear and the much stickier JDM compound .

They have the same part number as the ones from tire rack. But y'all are more than welcome to come "kick" the tires at the first event. I know many people are scared of me(cough cough) James. But fear not little one they are the right tires.

Same mold , same look ,,EXCEPT no USDOT and a stickier compound ...If it has the UUSDOT on it you are fine , if not they are not even legal on the street .

I'll buy you some if you give me 613 dollars.
Why has the price on the SS not gone down?!?! Freakin capitalism... I was hoping for some crack-head closeout pricing.

Post by integra55 on Jan 16, 2013 9:53:52 GMT -5
because people are still buying them .. if TR wasn't able to move them at the normal price then they would make some closeout pricing ... as long as they're selling what incentive would they have to cut the price ?

Yeah they only have a few Star Spec's left, and it was stated by TireRack that there would be no closeout prices.

Are the Dunlop Z-IIs supposed to be better than the 195 Toyo Proxes? I was looking at them on tirerack, and I'm no expert on tires, but the Z-IIs had the highest treadwear of all the extreme performance tires in the 205 / 50 - 15 size at 200 treadwear. I thought generally the lower the treadwear the better the grip? The Toyo Proxes are 140 treadwear, and I've been told the 195 toyo proxes grip as if they were 80 treadwear or something.
I'm going to be ordering a set the first of February so just trying to figure out what will be best for me to order =P

treadwear #'s are, quite often, just so much BS .. they really don't tell you much, some, just not much and as for them being better than the R1R, only time will tell ... when the R1R first came on the market it was a couple of yrs before it took the STC/STS world by storm .. the Z-II's are being written about as beating the SS's in all categories Video- www.tirerack.com/videos/index.jsp Words and stuff- www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp?ttid=168

And when you get past a point in the tire depth you get to the hard compound. Turning a 140 treadwear into a 300-400 treadwear and making the tire useless. If you can use a 195, the Toyo is great, having the entire tire made with the 140 treadwear compound. If you need bigger, dunlop all the way. Also treadwear is decided by the manufacturer, so the rating is useless.

Im not against wearing your helmet and driving for you as well I wouldn't make you do that... You know I could never kick back and relax (not my style)... I'm the queen ot taking names you know (gotta earn my worker of the year trophy).... I gotta find out from Mecca what I do to get the tires.... I think they gotta come from Folgers which I dont' know if they have what you need.... Unless Steven needs them for anything we are good on tires for our cars for a bit.... So we can talk and see if you want the certificate or not...He mentioned needing tires for the Miata, so I don't know... I don't need the tires on any of my vehicles any time in the next year or so...

Quick write up I read two weeks ago. The zII is .7 faster than ss in dry and 1.5 in wet. I think it'll surpass the "cheater" toyo

I'm more interested to see how it will do against the Hankooks than the Toyo. I feel the Toyo is great at some locations while off the pace at others. And the Hankooks are pretty consistant all around.

Also treadwear is decided by the manufacturer, so the rating is useless. Treadwear is indeed determined by the manufacturer as a comparison to other tire models in the manufacturer's line. Useless or not, that is what we have to go by, when choosing tires per SCCA rules.

My meaning of useless is referring to my desire to run on a Direzza of 200 as opposed to the 140 treadweareded Toyo or Hankook. If it works better, I don't care what the number on the side says. Hell, Hoosier A6's have a traction rating of C, but nobody is changing from their purple crack addictions. ;D
