I guess I was more asking for a list of the 2014 SCCA solo open classes. Is there a new Solo handbook that lists all the "new" classes out with the breakdown of make/models?

We will be doing all SCCA open classes as listed in the rule book. Tire class will stay for street prep, prep, street mod and mod classes on street tires. Pro and ladies PAX classes will continue as normal, so any open class is eligible. Intermediate class will be no more. However I am told by Duckworth Autocross IT Inc. that we can do 2 separate results, one for open classes and another for like modded PAX classes off the same event. So we can keep track of the PAX classes as well as the open classes for season points. Novice class championship will go away, but they will be getting an extra run, all with an instructor.

I will also happily help as a novice instructor as needed during runs.
Thanks for the link Anthony.

I will put a .pdf version of the handbook on all of the club computers and also have a printout in the trailer for people to look out... especially us registration peeps. Thanks

Sad to see Intermediate go, but it is what it is. Josh, I think you're capable of being competitive in Pro, but I believe we're gonna be tracking points/results for both Open classes and combined prep-level classes, so you could still run open STF and sorta/kinda be competing with all the other street touring classes if you wanted.

I don't want to run open. STF isn't like STX or STR where there are lots of people in the class (and I understand why). So I'd be more than likely going against myself and that's not good for me. I want to improve and get better and show that I didn't win because of my soft PAX. And what better class to do that in than Pro?

Sad to see Intermediate go, but it is what it is. Well sorry to make you sad, but you gotta admit that Intermediate started well. As the year went on, people started to move along to other classes, ending in you having no competition at Metrolina on November 30th. For 2014 you got Pro, and you have the ST PAX competition with the possibility of winning the larger 20 oz. Fastest Time glassware. And the year end trophies for the PAX Classes will be much nicer than the open class trophies.

And unfortunately it did taper off towards the ends, which was a disappointment, especially at the last event. It was a fun season and definitely was helpful and competitive. Looks like I'm going to go after one of those fancy Pro class trophies and glass-wares this year. See if I can shake things up for you autocross gods.

Get your feet wet at a tour event. Dixie is a lot of fun! Also ProSolo events .... I can't put into words. The level of adrenaline is just insane! And very addictive. I highly recommend one. The challenge to the event is above anything you can imagine. As you know a two day event, like NCAC or even a Nat tour, you have one course each day. At a Pro, you have two courses, set up side by side. Everyone knows they use a Christmas tree, drag strip, start. What people tend to leave out is not only do you need to learn two courses, but you need to learn them simultaneously. You line up at the tree, run that course, then immediately run the opposite course. So in a matter of maybe ten minutes you run both courses twice alternating between them. You do this in the morning, afternoon, and next morning. It's a rush!!!! So difficult to track your competitors times until you're in impound. Makes it even more exciting.
But get your feet wet at a tour. It's worth it! You'll be amazed how different, yet similar and fun, they are from a regional event. Don't worry about being the fastest out there in class. I finished near last the first year I went. I had a HIGHLY under prepared car. Although I could easily win at regionals, I was seconds back at national. Great times!

Frodo and Marske , Nationals can be done VERY Cheaply !! Especially codriving or splitting traveling/hotel costs with multiple people . We do it for well under $1000 for 2 people and that is towing with a truck that only gets about 11mpg while towing. Get your ducks in a row!!

www.solomatters.com/2011/05/8-tried-and-true-tips-for-a-500-solo-nationals-budget/Some good reading. In general, you can follow this pretty easily and save some $$. Geoff and I saved some left overs from meals and snagged the free food when possible. We also ate at the Atlanta tent or other grill spot on site for a few $$. Those places will have a donation jar for the food, but it's all pretty good and the standard is between $5 and $10 to lay down. Alternatively, PB&J, Tuna, or other sandwich material is pretty good. 3 nights there will have parties put on by the SCCA which really helps offset dinner costs (assuming you don't drink a bunch of the $5 coors lights they sell). 2014 will see me planning more now that I've done it, but Geoff's list was pretty well complete. We had the cooler between the seats with snacks readily available for the trip. While there, we bought some supplies in bulk the first day at wally world that allowed us to go the week without stopping again. For me, putting chairs, cold weather, hot weather, wet weather, sunscreen, shade, bikes, hats, sunglasses, shoes, and other things in the trailer will save a lot. Along with buying a few bricks of good beer locally to use on site. I might advertise space in the trailer for rent as well on the way out/way back to offset some cost. Total diesel cost (calculated 2,750 total miles round trip using 11 mpg and $3.75 a gallon) rounded up is $950. Geoff's van ate about $850 in comparison as we got roughly 11mpg in it as well. I like hotels though, so unless showers on site are available, I'd likely stick to that (except during transit). I pricelined a hotel at $200 for the week and it was just fine for Geoff and I. Mock budget as co-driver: Entry: $165 Diesel: $475 Hotel: $100 Food/drink for the week: $200 (inflated to show initial bricks of water purchased) Beer: $50 Misc: $100 (hookers and blow) Total: $1,090 That's a pretty realistic budget IMO for nationals without scrimping too much. It's roughly what I spent with Geoff. He didn't charge me for the co-drive, but I did pay him the $250 I won from VW which was the equivalent of 1 tire. Add in some $$ for rental fee if you think you should. Still, when you look at it from a vacation point of view it's a pretty cheap week vacation. The article is correct about seeing people drop five figures on the event, but I think that ruins the spirit a little bit. The "common folk" seem to have far more fun spending less and partying more, even when they're drinking cheap beer.

I am sad that I is gone. I'll run Pro because Lincoln is what matters most to me this year.
