It sounds like your calendar has made a huge mistake.

Course Map up. We're doing a revised Hodges design from the May contest.
Sorry Tony, I had to alter the start and finish. The angled finish between pole and stairs was a bit sketchy to me.
Come join us and get your slalom on.

Weather looks great for this Saturday. 87 degrees with a 0% chance of rain That would be nice. The last time I was there it rained buckets. As usual, I wouldn't mind a co-driver, preferably someone better than I. Of course, my luck with the car hasn't been great lately. The right front spindle broke in Winston-Salem, then the ball joint, which was about the only part on the right front suspension that wasn't replaced, failed the next weekend. Two weekends in a row with not a single completed run. *sigh* Based on the analysis of the broken part, it wasn't so much a design flaw, as it was an installation problem. It's clear that the lower bolt holding the spindle to the strut was not tight enough. That caused the twisting stress from braking to be concentrated in a relatively narrow part of the casting. It cracked. The crack spread over time. The break came on the first turn after hard braking. The lateral acceleration was only about 0.5g when the break happened. DeWitt Payne 2011 Mustang GT, FS new Dunlop ZII's, Koni yellow shocks and Strano rear sway bar Taylor Carr is on Facebook looking for a ride. He has had FTP's on the past, so I'd say he's pretty good. I heard from other Mustang owners that the design flaw is it doesn't hold the torque spec and needs constant tightening. Hope you have a dry, problem free time this weekend.

I know it is too late to do this, but I need to be changed from STX to STS. Guy isn't coming tomorrow to look at the VW. It will happen at a later date. So it's MIATA time. This ought to be interesting.

I just put the car back in the garage, and noticed the stack of time-slips on the floor. It reminded me what a fun day we had yesterday. It also reminded me how easily we see problems, and how hard it is for us to see when things go right. Yesterday, we pumped 150 cars through four runs of a minute-long course and still had PLENTY of time for fun runs. We had ANOTHER course that would rank right up there with anyone's course. With few exceptions, we had times as we came off the course, and knowledgable announcers keeping the info flowing. (IMO, the announcer adds a lot to the atmosphere.) Timing ran almost flawlessly; a noteworthy feat for such a large site. We had plenty of workers on course for the group when I worked and the one after, and they were almost all on-time. (Funny how we had more workers on course at a 150-driver event than we've had at previous 200-driver events.) Registration and tech and waivers were on-time and smiling. And, again with few exceptions, the numbers on the cars were easy to read from a hundred feet. Little stuff? Maybe so, but it adds up, and it's easy to take for granted. What made me stop and think about it? That stack of time-slips. They were on sticky-pads. I happen to know we started the day with a display board AND a "receipt" printer. The fact that my times were on sticky-pad means both of those primary systems were down, but someone had thought ahead enough to bring sticky-pads and a pen, and to station someone at finish to ensure times were handed out even with two systems down! THAT's thinking ahead! Believe me, these events don't just happen. It takes considerable effort by many people, and more planning and forethought than is obvious. We notice (sometimes vocally) when things go wrong. We should also notice and be just as vocal when they go right. To the core group and all the folks who make these CCR events work, THANK YOU! Once again, JOB WELL DONE!

I would also like to follow up on Dean Furr's comments on how well things went yesterday. A great course, fast and fun. And I really liked how there were "sub" work stations. I think that was a great plan. It spread out the workers and made them not congregate out on course for a social gathering. They actually had an assigned work station of their own and it made covering such a large course feasible. I know that we all autocross to have fun, but so many seem to spend too much time talking and socializing when they are suppose to be course workers. That is usually a large part of delays and for the most part, I did not see it yesterday. Great job CCR!

I just remembered: The display board WAS working for at least three of my runs. I know it was down for a short time early in the day, but it was obvioiusly back in operation for Group 4. Again, it's so easy to not see what's going well!

Fun event. It was really nice to be able to actually complete runs and be able to drive the car home the same day, unlike my last two events.
