I'd love to see it at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds again. It's the perfect location. The course was awesome too.

I like Dixie if we iz voting on it.... Gave us a nice paddock area with lots of grassy areas and pavilions to set up under. Since it always seems to rain at least once per event, that would provide a little extra protection. The course we had last year was nice, long, fast, with some neat slow parts. Got to drive the infamous SS Impala on it, which was a real education in combining torque, grip, weight, body roll, slow steering, and a very trusting owner! Would love to take the Fiesta out there and see what could be done.
Knights is always acceptable as a second choice - Gville Braves is about the same IMO.

I think Maggie valley is an awful site for the 24HR. The lot is small, the paddock is smaller. The Dixie site is a great - its pretty big and allows for some really great courses if you plan ahead and the paddock area is really big. Dixie definitely gets my vote!

"Wonder what I'd PAX on R-comps? Still can't beat that truck!" Not sure you will have to worry about the truck too much longer. I just got a Civic Hybrid that I am thinking about taking out and selling the truck . Woohoo Oh well I would like to be competitive, but I am mainly there to have fun.[/quote Whooaaaa... i needed to read more of the earlier posts...What!!! no RaceTruck!!!! say it ain't so...geez, PDawg get to ya Michael??? Got you saving gas!!! well, it is all about fun I guess isnt it. Echo'ing Mr Volksman - I too like a bit longer run - I think 40 -50 second courses are great and it is amazing how much more an extra 10 seconds adds to the fun. I really liked last years event at Dixie and it was great to be isolated back there away from "tourists". Oh well - Volksman does have the right idea....runs are longer in a slower car ;D SoloRacer and Saabstory are planning on bringing out a couple of spare beaters - We are going to have an old Camaro V-6 challenge match - providing the clutch holds up..LOL

Agreed....there wasnt' adequate paddock room when we ran there last year for an event. You get 150 cars show up and we will have a problem...but the scenery is nice! I remember that there is a really big dip there that bottomed out a few cars - hate to see what id do to that pretty Merc' of yers. It'd just knock my teeth out in the Fiesta.. ;D

You run from 12:00 Saturday afternoon to 12:00 Sunday afternoon. When you get to the line you declare an "official" run, you get 5 of those. You get as many non-official runs as you want.
We lined up for grid, 4 cars at the line for runs, do 2 or 3 runs (I think), then back in line for grid.
Last year you could register for noon-midnight and midnight-noon or all 24 hours.

Last year you could register for noon-midnight and midnight-noon or all 24 hours. And for each 12 hour period you compete in you must work for 2 hours.

It'd just knock my teeth out in the Fiesta.. ;D You're not kidding, and its right at the "cross-over" section of the course that is almost always going to be the fast part. My rear V710s have a nice little groove on the shoulder from that exact spot you're talking about... it was pretty violent. The scenery in maggie is great with the mountains and stuff in the background, but its just not a site with sufficient space for this kind of event. Oh, and its far, Dixie is 90seconds away from my house!!

As far as location goes I vote for anything close to Charlotte. Several of us Vette guys will be doing a 2 day NCCC points event at CMP that same weekend. The plan is to leave CMP saturday afternoon and drive to the CCR event for some runs (again, it's a points thing) then head back to Columbia so we can be back at CMP Sunday AM. Knights would be great.

We should rent out Roat Atlanta for the 24 hrs. :-P
I'm hoping for Dixie like we had last year.

Dixie is nice for paddock/parking room; limited access to the course area; course mostly out of view from the public roads; indoor restrooms instead of porta-johns. It's theoretically ideal for spectating, since there is (was last year, anyway) access to a covered, cement grandstand overlooking the entire course area. However, one couldn't see the time clock from up there, as the course was laid out last year, at least.
The detriments: It can be hard to find, especially if say, you haven't been to Winston since you were a child well before driving age, and not to the Fairgrounds specifically. The directions on the old website were, IMHO, terrible. I was lost for a bit, but somehow stumbled my way there, fortunately. I suggest getting an online map tailored to where you're coming from. The course itself has to be on lanes of asphalt between grassy areas, so the effect is much like Lowes or CMP (when we ran Solo2's there). That's to say, like using a track. This limits how much you can diffentiate the courses there. In other words, people who have ran there more, will have an advantage over people who haven't. Don't get me wrong, I love Lowe's and Dixie, but for that reason, I think it might be a good idea to only have one event a year at some place like that. Also, the course designers need to be extra creative at such places; changing up "the line", running it the other direction, etc. If you like faster courses, you'll like Dixie. I had an even more spectacular spin-out at Dixie, than my 2nd run at Lowe's (for those of you that saw that one ;D ). I had a "feint" drift of about 45 degrees one way, then snapped back the other way into a near 180 like at Lowe's ;D It didn't have the drama of being so close to the finish light equipment, however.
